This may be a stretch, but how bout Beregond?

His name is said to mean 'valiant stone' and you could say he was a precious sword in that his actions helped to save Faramir's life
Today is a good day for Pie.

Not a bad guess and closer than others in that you are looking at the meaning of names but his name does not mean "precious sword".
The person in question, who plays a role in the War of the Ring, has a name which does mean precious sword in that character's language (or the language used to reflect that language.)

    Ye Gads!, its Erkenbrand!

Thanks for enlightening me I had not thought that the "Arken" in Arkenstone had any philological meaning until now.

    YAY! You got it.
    erken < O.E. eorcan
brand < O.E. brond/brand which also meant sword, especially in poetry

Why ever not? It was the correct answer to my clue. flower = river (sort of cryptic crossword style) and fast = running.

Wa-a-ait, I had an inkling you meant it literally... I do believe this very expression was used in describing Gandalf's fireworks dragon at the Party. Can't post the quote exactly without peeking.

I'm sure this is not what you are looking for, but it is "thrice spoken".

One Ring to rule them all,
    One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
