Let's begin with an unlikely blind guess to get the steam rolling again...

The dent exploded into the outlet of the deep stream during the siege of Helm's Deep
Landroval: Kibilturg, Taurunion, Erohtar... (Watchers of Elendil)
Crickhollow: Kibilturg (Tarciryan Knights), Zigilturg (Forever Notorious), Birnavor (The Northern Kingdom), Nuncle (Casual Wanderers)
Visiting elsewhere as Kibilturg, Urwendil... Born and raised on Imladris

That's it. I knew someone would get that pretty quick.

    You have the riddle stick.

    Question

(I could better construct this in the three-word thread but anyway...)

    Forefather recurred
Landroval: Kibilturg, Taurunion, Erohtar... (Watchers of Elendil)
Crickhollow: Kibilturg (Tarciryan Knights), Zigilturg (Forever Notorious), Birnavor (The Northern Kingdom), Nuncle (Casual Wanderers)
Visiting elsewhere as Kibilturg, Urwendil... Born and raised on Imladris

Is it as easy as Durin?

Nope, not one of the Durin series
Landroval: Kibilturg, Taurunion, Erohtar... (Watchers of Elendil)

Think within a wider time period... Two tips:

    1. The first is the First; the latter is a last
    2. Their names are the same but not identical

Landroval: Kibilturg, Taurunion, Erohtar... (Watchers of Elendil)
Crickhollow: Kibilturg (Tarciryan Knights), Zigilturg (Forever Notorious), Birnavor (The Northern Kingdom), Nuncle (Casual Wanderers)

Nope, the first is by no means the forefather of the latter and you're still going after identical names
Landroval: Kibilturg, Taurunion, Erohtar... (Watchers of Elendil)

Beör the Old and king Elessar? Both from the house of Beör.

Let me make the question & tips a bit clearer:

    • The first is the forefather of the latter.
    • The first is the first of the line while the latter is a last, but not the last.
    • The two are namesakes, yet their names are not identical.

<evilly glad with finally coming up with a tough one >

I apologize in shame my friends since the second tip is erroneous: the character is not a last as can be compared to the other one being the first. This should now make it all clear: He's second from last.

I'll try again. The first worm Glaurung the Golden, and one of dragons that comes after him: Smaug the Golden.

No, unfortunately not, nor any dragon. Not an evil character at all.

Focus on the name guys. It goes like this: The great Macedonian emperor of Antiquity and the unfortunate son of the latest Czar of Russia were namesakes, yet their names weren't identical. The same is valid for the name(s) our character and his long forefather.

    Talking

I still think my guess of Durin answered the question quite well (how much more recurring of a forefather can you get than a periodic reincarnation of the 1st dwarf to awake?)

In any case, since that is wrong, I will try a couple from the race of man:
    Tar-Aldarion and Eldarion
    Tar-Amandil and Amandil

Not sure these would qualify as very first or 2nd last though...

If those aren't right and you didn't want to give it all away, you could just give the correct race away and we might be able to get it from there.

    Sorry it's too obscure guys

OK, it's the race of Man, the High breed. Not evil folks. Keep in mind it's a namesake of a forefather, but the word form of the name went through a linguistic change (as in the case of Alexandros > Aleksey). A further hint on this line: The forefather's name is in Quenya, the answer is its Sindarin form (NOT translation).

Even further: Look at who asks the riddle and it may light some bulbs

As a last try I'll give away the forefather's name in a few hours...

You got the forefather right, but not yet the answer. It's a huge improvement though

Reminder: The unidentical namesake is the second from last

I think the answer clearly then is Eärendil and Eärnil II, though I am not enough of an expert to know the full story on how the two names are related linguistically. Care to fill us in Urwendil?
