I believe you mean an island-like rocky structure caused by erosion with the term "haystack rock". Such formation most likely is represented in Middle-Earth too. It could be from some cache of lore I'm not aware of, but I wish you chose something visible in the Middle-Earth's map.

So, my answer is "Himling"/"Himring". It used to be a hill which was transformed into an island after the last battle against Morgoth, as the waters flooded over the hill, almost completely sinking it. And as far as I know, it isn't mentioned to be anyone's location of living in LOTR, most likely due to the fact it is impossible to settle there.
"'Nonetheless they will have need of wood', said Aulë and he went on with his smith-work."

That was not what I had in mind, but it certainly works.

This has to end. I do not play LOTRO because I want to gamble. I play LOTRO because I like the game.

The Carrock is indeed what I had in mind.

Flaming defense... I can think of a few things that come to mind.
The one that came first is Aragorn fighting back the Nazgul at Weathertop.

Hmmm, for this one I wanna say...

The fire pits in Moria that allowed the Fellowship to get in front of the orcs and avoid their trap?

Eodread, Earendel, Lindrial, Isilmacil - Horizon

Not it but getting closer to the answer

Could "flaming defence" be Gandalf (in Moria)? He's a radiant personality and wields ring of Narya which was a sort of "fire magic ring", wasn't it? And flaming defence he was to the fellowship of the Ring, against other flaming creature, Balrog.
"'Nonetheless they will have need of wood', said Aulë and he went on with his smith-work."

Although Narya does qualify as a flamming defense it isn't what I had in mind....Eodread was closer to the mark with the answer being an actual place.

    Flaming defense
Gandalf's defense of the Fellowship from the wolves @ Burnt Tor before entering Moria.

If it's not Burnt Tor, I'm going to guess the Bonfire Glade where the hobbits used fire to stop the attacking trees in the Old Forest.

    Urwen.

    No hints.

Another good guess but moving too far West.

The answer is Lalaith, sister to Turin. However, just to let ya know....the format for this trivia thread is a 2 word clue. For example, Urwen could have been "plague victim". There is a thread for single word clues on this forum as well.

Also, it's customary for the person who answered the last clue correctly to give the next one.

Thank you for joining in...I look forward to your future clues!

Hmm... well, if you want something not that far west, what about Narchost?
Well, I suppose you could always say "flame resistant sunglasses" if you prefer that to "shoes"

The first maybe time-travelling dwarf I thought of is Durin the Deathless. Does (supposed) reincarnation count as time-travelling?

I'm a little stumped finding a fire reference to Narchost. Could you or one of the other lore gurus expand on this a little? Not trying to derail the thread too much, but I'm curious!
