Incontinent can also mean unceasing, so maybe Durin?

No my clue is more of a play on words than a philological translation.

And that's the thinnest hint you're going to get.

Might be a stretch, but a play on words could lead to the Witch-king of Angmar?

Especially by the time of the War of the Ring he was little more than a false king.

Or Smaug, who when flying out to Lake-town intended to show them who was the 'real King under the Mountain'.

    incontinent
    ?n?k?nt?n?nt/
    adjective: incontinence

    1.
having no or insufficient voluntary control over urination or defecation.
    "elderly, incontinent parents"
    2.
    lacking self-restraint; uncontrolled.
"the incontinent hysteria of the massed pop fans"
synonyms: unrestrained, uncontrolled, lacking self-restraint, unbridled, unchecked, ungoverned, uncurbed, unsuppressed, unfettered, untrammelled; More
    uncontrollable, ungovernable
    "their incontinent hysteria"
    antonyms: restrained

A king is a male monarch.
    King may refer to:
    King (playing card)
    King (chess)
King, a promoted piece in draughts (including checkers)
Hurricane King, which struck Florida in 1950

Incontinent is the second album by Frank Tovey, better known as Fad Gadget, released in 1981

And that's about as far as I'll get for now.

Oh, and it's said that folk empty their bowels when they die. Didn't the Goblin King smell rather bad after Gandalf's lightning trick?

This has to be the answer folks.

Play on words: incontinent = Bladorthin (bladder thin)
The Hobbit: Bladorthin is mentioned only in The Hobbit.
Not listed in any line of kings: Bladorthin is only mentioned as a sort of aside in The Hobbit.
    The Thinnest clue: Bladorthin

And then there is the last clue:
"spear with a thrice forged head and shafts inlaid with cunning gold"

    Directly quoted from The Hobbit:
"They wondered if they were still lying there unharmed in the hall below: the spears that were made for the armies of the great King Bladorthin (long since dead), each had a thrice-forged head and their shafts were inlaid with cunning gold,"

Great answer C, I'm absolutely certain that must correct.

Also thanks for the explanation Boraxxe, very thorough.

Interestingly Bladorthin was the original name Tolkien used for the wizard in The Hobbit, before settling on Gandalf.

    Yowza that's a good one!

I've read through The Hobbit many times and never caught that bit. Well done C!
