Current Raid content a little stale.

    Anyone else felling the same?

Probably been posted somewhere else, but seeing as I hardly read the forums I figured I'd post. I know Turbine was hard at work going F2P and all that good stuff. Old raids revisited was cool for a minute. Honestly I'm hoping we don't have to wait for the next expac for a new raid. Meh, just thought I would post something.

Been feeling that way for a while. Knowing radiance is going away but having absolutely no info regarding what that actually means just makes it worse. Not knowing when new instances and raids are coming adds to the worse. Sadly I think we will have to wait for the next expansion for any new raids. Turbine is focused on the F2P experience and has a lot of bugs to address, both of which I think will keep anything of substance from happening before an expansion.

I don't know if I'll make it that far. :/

According to the Executive Producer, "optimizing the store" = "developing new content" now.

    So um, yeah.

You don't. There's a new cluster coming in Book 3 early next year according to Paiz a month or so ago.

Well I am hoping we get something before the expansion. There is reason to hope, Turbine did a Podcast over at Massively recently; they stated the new raid with its cluster will be coming out next year BEFORE the expansion. Now granted, does that mean it will come in March? Feburady? June? Janurary? Who knows but we are getting "something".

However, that does not solve the "situation" many raiding kins have at this time. Yes raid content is stale but thats the nature of the "beast". When your in a raiding kinship, you are usually (not all the time) blasting through the raid content and farming it within a couple of months.

The Mirkwood end-game instance cluster (only three 3-mans, one 6-man, and one 3-boss raid) will have been around for 14+ months by the time the next one is released.

If you started with no gear and only did SG *once a week*, you had enough radiance to start BG in March.

If you then ran BG once a week, you have had about 28 chances to beat it 12 times and gear out everyone in the raid.

That doesn't seem like "blowing through" anything.

14+ months between new instances is pathetic.

Do we know if this is a new cluster or an old raid turned classic turned into a cluster?
Because I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that JWB was actively working on The Rift, and I wouldn't be surprised to see The Rift / Barad Guluran / CD / Uru as some type of raid cluster.
Though hopefully they won't be steamrolled easy modes like the current classics :/

The words "new instances" have been used several times. They don't call scaling classics "new". Yes, JW said he had the Rift in pieces on his computer, but did not say when that would be complete. The "new instances" have had a much more definite timeline in several Turbine statements.

thank you for your clarification on this gildhur.
even if its coming oh say 6-8 months late im somewhat excited to see if turbine can go back to their glory days with this new raid given the new funds. but with me after waiting so long for new interesting raid with GOOD loot,(read BG sucked) this is turbines last chance with me. if the next cluster is not fun and has fail loot like BG im done

Re: Current Raid content a little stale.

I do not think the problem was that BG was a "bad" raid. The bosses were unique and rather entertaining imo. Sure the trash was a little annoying, the jewelry pretty pathetic, the set not the best for many classes..but we had already had that experience with DN. The problem is we have had that and nothing else for far too long. I am pretty sure when the next set of instances come out it will be the longest drought between releases since the game has come out. (No hele/anu/gb garbage do not count, those are basically just skirmishes)

I do. It's been buggy since day one, the loot is horrendous, the trash pulls are mostly huge globs of morale with skills designed purely to irritate, the respawn timers are punitive and enthusiasm-killing, and the final boss has an "easy mode" with far too little room for error. Yes, the Gauntlet is cool, and the boss fights are a fun challenge, but it took far too little time for this instance to stop being something I look forward to and to become a chore.

I'm gonna disagree a little bit. I still like the Gauntlet and the boss fights. I also like a lot of the mobs in there (really the only mobs I absolutely can't stand are the lights). Compared to Helegrod, which is basically a zerg-fest with no strategy aside from "aoe everything", I find that BG is a lot more fun to play if that can even be considered a compliment. Even after running it so many times, there is still risk and excitement to some degree.

I will agree that there are still bugs that have existed through it's entire existence since Mirkwood beta and that is a little irritating. However, the graphics, layout, mechanics, and challenge are all there, and aside from the minor bugs that still exist, it is well designed in those respects. I think the worst part though, of BG's design, is that a large part of it simply discourages repeat playability... which seems completely counter-intuitive.

Not only that, nothing has really been done to significantly improve that design. There are a few decent drops, but nothing spectacular that would constitute the 3-4 hour commitment of 12 people, especially considering the high learning curve required. Symbols should have had the current drop rate from the very beginning. The trash still respawns, discouraging struggling kins (especially more casual kins) from learning the boss fights to this very day - and now radiance is out the door and alt looting has been removed.

All of it adds up to bad planning and a solid rating of: needs improvement.

Re: Current Raid content a little stale.

Coming from what would be considered a casual raiding kin, I can attest to how unfriendly BG is to a kin like ours. Gauntlet is fun and challenging, but having the whole thing respawn if you wipe on the first boss a couple of times.... The metric ton of trash after the second boss..... The respawning of the trash..... The bad loot itemisation......

DN was a far better designed raid, but even that had screwed up difficulty progression (first fight Trolls far harder than Flagit and Zholuga).

Regardless, I'll be interested in how they make the loot from the next raid attractive.
Congratulations to all the winners in the DragonSlayer awards!

After the treatment Annuminas and Helegrod got, do any of us care about how they butcher the rift? I mean, they could have just given us an empty instance with loot at the end and it'd be about the same.
