Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

Hi everyone, I'm still very new to a lore master. Currently I'm level 26 and I already find all the different skills I have to be a bit overwhelming. I seem to have a hard time keeping track of all the different skills. I know it's going to take a lot more practicing before I get more comfortable with it but I think another partial reason could be my skill setup on my skill bar.
My question for everyone is what works for you on your skill bar setup for your lore masters. I tried to keep my skills organized with 1 row for attacks, 1 row for supporting allies, 1 row for debuffs and CC's, 1 row for pet related skills but that even looks messy and unorganized. And to think I'm going to have more skills as I level up. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Re: Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

I am in the same boat as you...being lvl 24. However, I will add that I would recommend adding hot bar 4 and 5.
I moved hot bar 5 to the lower left of my screen and use that for stuff like my horse, pet buffs like the signs, healing potions...things like that. Maybe my prospector icon...

On my main bottom bar I have the left 3 boxes with my bread and button ranged attacks. In the middle of that row is the Wizardry spell and a few more empty boxes then Staff skill. Those are the abilities I use the most so spread them nicely on the bottom bar.

My mez are bunched on the 2nd bar on the right. All of my heals are bunched in the upper right. And my debuffs are on my left hand side. Still working on it but so far I know where everything is that I use alot.

I thought I'd put mine here.

Fellowship vitals fit between vertical bars. The only issue I foresee is that I'll want to hotkey my non-damaging signs.

Right now I have blinding flash bound to my mouse back button, but seem to not use it that much when grouped.. What single skill do you use the most in raids??

Re: Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

My idea is to have a system that'll be pretty similar across all my characters so it's easier to switch between them. For example, on my captain i put my on-defeat skills where my debuffs are on my lm, and my battle readied skills where my cc skills are on my lm, but everything else is the same.

(bottom to top. Single target skills are generally on the left of multi-target skills)
bar 1: damage skills on left, misc on right (map home, skirmish attack command)
bar 2 (ctrl): debuffs on left, long duration skills on right (pets/pet buffs)
bar 3 (alt): cc on left, misc on right (elven stealth, crafting skills, etc)
bar 4 (shift): heals+condition removal on left, potions on right

My map is on the upper right, with missions below it. On the upper left is my character/target bar with my fellowship/conjunction stuff below it. Bottom left is chat (with companion commands below it), bottom middle is skills, bottom right is companion, soldier, and escorts. Eventually I'll probably add a 5th and possibly 6th horizontal bar at the top and put stuff that I don't need to use in combat up there (pets, pet buffs, long duration buffs, map home, etc).

I'm at work now so no screenshots but generally, remapping the keys works best for me.

I use mostly 1234QERTFGZXCV and their Alt- versions (playing on a laptop where the Alt- key is very conveniently just under my left thumb). All my main attacks/CC are mapped to those, except Fire/Herb/etc Lore based spells which are placed to the extreme right end of the bars in a 2x3 layout. Pet skills are clicked when needed, some are left on auto-cast.

Here's my fullscreen setup, it has had a few alterations since then but nothing major:

Here's a kind of breakdown of the reasoning behind where things are. Also, I have most of my major skills hot-keyed, and all the common ones available to be hit with the left hand (right hand is on mouse.) Still click stuff to the right side of bar unless they are hot-keyed.

Re: Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was actually not aware of the fact I can customize my skill bar so much by moving it all around and such. All those skills at level 65 looks nuts, I hope I can manage all those if I get there.

Mindgamez - I'm gonna try adding skill bars 4 and 5 tonight for some of those skills that aren't used too much or can auto-cast

geoboy - Thanks for the screenshot, it looks really organized. I like the idea of having a bar on the far right for skills I can just click. Currently I've only done Great Barrows so every has mez immunity. If they didn't have immunity I know blinding flash + fire-lore would be used almost every time they are up. Currently against the dead I am using bane-flare when it is up, spamming sign of power: command when I get the chance, and also Test of Will and LotRD.

frzn - having a universal set up for all characters is definitely a good idea. I think since LM is my main I'm gonna find a system which works best for it and then force my alts to work around it when I get to making them.

SerowLOTRO - I really like this idea, because my right hand is always on my mouse, I was even thinking how am I supposed to go alt+= with just my left hand. Honestly I wasn't even aware I could change the keys like that. Gonna try this tonight. If it's not too much trouble, could you post a screenshot of your set up? I think I can really learn from it.

Mael5trom - Thanks for the screenshot and the nice mapping with your reasoning. I think I'm gonna follow that as a guideline for my grouping. I find lore master skills to be able to fit under multiple groups. I'm gonna try that setup with my clickable skills on the right side going vertically.

Side question: I saw somewhere on this forum about someone talking about +rep. How do I give +rep to people?

I hope with lua we can refine the ui to be like that pic of the separated skills.

This is how I have my skill bars set up as well. My misc skills to the right on each bar are a little different, but the way you have bars 1 - 4 set up on the left are the same.

I try and have a similar template across all my characters so in the heat of things I'm not hunting for skill types. The only difference is on my minstrel I have heals set to the alt bar and T3 ballads and gated effects on the Shift bar. My main bar is for my main attack sequence. My alt bar is set to use CC or often used secondary skills.

Not yet 65, so I'm missing about 6 or so skills from a 65 LM. When I get all the skills, I might rearrange a bit but this is generally how I run with all my characters.

Primary attacks are centred around 123QERF with ZXC (and all their Alt- versions) tending to be support skills. I use WS for forward/backward and AD for strafing.

Re: Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

Oh, forgot to mention. The reason i put my debuffs on the ctrl bar and heals on the shift bar is because i can hit them with my left pinky, making for quick access while moving so I can activate them more quickly (debuffs cast instantly and heals+condition removal is where i also put oh-**** skills). The alt-button is a bit more awkward to access (my thumb goes under my palm so it's just a bit more of a deliberate movement instead of a natural one) so i put my cc skills on there because they mostly have induction times or long recharges so I want to be a bit more discriminant before I use them.

I played tribes 2 for a while when it came out, so I got into the habit of using esdf for all my movement keys because 1. they're the same keys i use for typing 2. they're easy to find without looking 3. i can still reach all the way to the ctrl key so it gives me access to extra keys (can reach farther to the right, I've got 2 extra keys to the left of my movement keys). I think something like 1% of people play like this, heh.

I like the idea of remapping the right side keys to be under the the number keys. I think I'm going to start using that for shift/ctrl/alt and move some of my misc skills up to 5/6 bars.

Re: Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

I'll see if I can grab a screenshot once I get home from class tonight.

Anyway, basically, I have skills sorted by category; that is, DPS, BUFF, DEBUFF, DAZE, ROOT, etc. A rough sketch:

Alt Bar --> DAZE (flash and flare) - DEBUFF (lores, ancient craft) - HEALS (self)
Ctrl Bar --> DPS (Signs of Batt) - ROOT (herb and cracked) - BUFFS (SoP:R,V)
Main Bar --> DPS (BE, Ents, etc) - MISC (i.e. self buff, valar) - BUFFS (beacon and cure)

That's a very, very rough sketch. Limited-use-utility skills like the warding circles are on a bar to the right of the main bars, and Tar is in the middle near cracked earth. My pets are all on a new bar, since I'm using the TonicBars plugin.

When you look at it, the colors are all crazy, but it makes sense from a hotkey standpoint, and the most important skills are in the easiest to reach places (Ancient Knowledge of Cures being on the right edge with the Signs of Power; Mez on Alt+1; flank heals from Signs of Battle on Ctrl+1&2, etc).
[B]Turn - Guardian
Balandolen - Lore-master
Turnholm - Minstrel

This is actually possible now...problem is that it is very difficult to make keybindings that work on the Lua Quickslot bars. But just for clicking, this would be very possible.

I just have keybindings, no macros, but I figure that's what you meant.

I'm not too fancy, in fact I've been considering whether to add a CTRL/SHFT keybinding to some of my standards, but the important skills that I have keybound are:

V = SoP:Righteousness (Stun Immunity)
B = Share the Power
F = Wound Cure (whatever the new one is called)
G = Disease Cure (never turned this off since I do sometimes run without PAAIs, and I can still use this in-combat)
H = Morale Heal

Also, because of where they are on the bars, the following are really easy to hit:
SHFT 1 or 2 - SoB:Wizardry/Wizard's Fire (mainly for Flank heals, and to keep the dots going, also by being in the top corner, they are easy to hit with a click also)
SHFT 4 - Corruption Removal
1 - Blinding Flash
4, 5 - LotRD, Test of Will (stuns easy to reach)
CTRL 3, 4 - Fire Lore/Wind Lore

The keybinds I've been thinking about setting up would be:
SHFT-H - Wisdom of the Council (Self-Heal)
SHFT-B - Power Drain

Really, I like only having a small subset of the really important skills as hot-keys, that way it is quick and immediate responses to things I need to do instead of having to think about which key I need to hit.

Re: Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

I really don't have a skills grouped to specific categories. Is if a valid thought though.

I'm not much of a WASD guy for movement LOTRO. So I remapped my 1,2,3 ect quickslot to QWERTY line of the keyboard and the next quickslot to 1,2,3. I use my mouse for camera and character moves.
I have S for back up and A & D for strafe. Also awhile back I picked a Naga mouse from Razor. It has 12 button keypad on the side and you can program macros.
Now I'm not much of a mouse clicker I like to hit a button for skill. I feel I would waste to much time hunting for the right skill to click. So I've bound the majority of my debuffs and pet attack to the buttons on the mouse and my most common attack skills on the key board for my left hand. I like the way is works wiggling my fingers like a lore master should. :P

Re: Skill Bar Setup - What works for you?

Here's my setup:

It goes in columns for types of skils, with less used (or more powerful) skills towards the top. I spent a long time perfecting it before I ever hit level cap, leaving gaps for where the higher level skills would eventually go. That preplanning really paid off and I never had to learn weird key combos or remap when things no longer made sense.

I called it UltraMinimal - basically it was a combination of the Black Fade interface, updated for the latest patches/books and with Ultra Mini Packs added. Also moved alot of the buttons to the bottom right corner.

I don't claim any true aspect of the design as my own, it's more of a conglomeration of a few different UIs, mainly Black Fade which was no longer being updated when I started using it.
