Music "directional" problems seeming much worse these days.

Lately, things seem to be much worse with the direction a player faces, and the range, on whether someone can actually hear the music instrument.

it has gotten to where, if my band is not in a Circle facing each other, we cannot fully hear each other.

Lastnight we had gathering, and I was near the middle, I could not hear any stringed instruments that were on my left. I had no problem hearing the flute on my immediate left, but the strings were without any volume.

If you are facing the band playing you can hear them for the most part, but side by side, on the left you cannot hear at all in some cases.

I hope when music is next being worked on maybe we can have music as a radius, around the instrument, and not a directional radius.
Music is a hugely important part of the game for me, my kin, and many many others this is something I hope that can be fixed.

Did you notice it today at the GHMS show? I was in multiple locations, both in front of and in the band, and didn't notice any issues with not hearing instruments.

    Yes it was present.
It may be an issue with certain sound cards.

It it half a turn to your left I cannot hear anything ( notice Balimbor emoted moving so he could hear hehe )
If I turn a click beyond it, I can hear, I can turn completely around and hear, but it kills anything music related. in a straight line to my immediate left..
This isn't new with f2p, just more noticeable. I first noticed it a hotpatch or two after Mirkwood, but it is worse now.

If we were just on a radius setting instead of a directional setting it would eliminate that problem.

I am not sure but I think it is more noticeable when you have EAX checked on. I notice it as an audience member when listening to the music. I use headphones, so that may contribute to it, although my other sounds seem to flow from left to right more seamlessly and come off sounding more true to a surround sound environment.

I run with it off, but I turned it on tonight tested it then tested it again off with no differences.

Encountered this last night on Falibrand during our weekly test session. Tweaking player music, music (game music), and ambient sounds seemed to resolve it. But then hit it later in the evening when Filidor was listening to the HP. so--dunno.

Re: Music "directional" problems seeming much worse these days.

Noticed this with EMS at both A&T on Landroval and at our Wednesday weekly testing session and our show on Elendilmir.

    We did some experimentation.

The audible "zone" has been "narrowed" for the game player's observation point to about 20 degrees +/- (about 10 degrees left and right of your forward [0 degree] or back [180 degree] orientation).

If you're in a bandline, playing....the folks' music to your left and right is very subdued, while your own music sounds VERY loud in comparison.

During Ales and Tales on Monday, I had band members asking if it sounded bad from the audience POV and I ran out to the audience to check, and found that it sounded okay from that POV.

That's mainly because the 20 degree +/- narrowing is less noticeable, the further you are from the band.

Only advice I can give at this point is to "tighten" up your bandlines and hope we see some love from the devs to address this new problem with the music system introduced with the F2P change update.

My problem is that the music is very LOUD. Even turning it down to zero (player made music) seems to have no effect. The same problem exists with trumpets in skirmishes.

Unfortunately, Since the introduction of the Skirmishes system, the volume of the "Trumpet" sound between fights has always been a problem and I have yet to find an audio function that allows you to turn down the volume of it. The "Trumpet" sound in Skirmishes is separate from the Music System.

This recent update to the game has brought a new bug to Player Music Volume slider in your Audio Options.

Since the update, the volume of player music will not change/update, after adjusting the Player Music Volume slider in the Audio Options panel, until you move your character (Keep the Audio option window open when you do this for it to update. If you close it before moving, the adjustment will not update).

This is a new bug that came with this update and was not occurring prior to the update.

The above work-around should work, for now, for folks listening to others play music.

Unfortunately it leaves those Playing Music, unable to adjust the Player Music Volume on the fly, while playing music, without moving your character and breaking the music stance and stopping the song.

This isn't limited to music. It's affecting combat sounds as well: http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...ectional-Sound.

It sounds like a bug introduced as part of a fix to something else. Hopefully enough folks have bugged it to get dev attention.

Aye I hope we can get this fixed, We'll need to make sure we tighten our band grouping I guess.

GHMS has been paying attention to our positioning when performing for several months now (at Vydor's suggestion), so we're usually ok from an audience perspective. I just need to remember to be at audience distance when rehearsing them!
Has anyone noticed changes based on distance, rather than direction? Just wondering...

Re: Music "directional" problems seeming much worse these days.

Distance is more of an on/off rather than an attenuation. It's very loud right by the player, constant sound as you back off, then it suddenly cuts off as you get farther away.

So, I'm not the only person in game to have suddenly gone "deaf" in my left ear? I can basically only hear from my right ear in game, although it's been that way for months now (well before the F2P expansion).
As a level 1 burglar, Bilbo got a pony when he joined the Smaug The Dragon raid. Then he asked for leadership, looted the chest, assigned himself the 1st age Arkenstone and mailed it to an alt (Bilbo's a VIP so can mail from anywhere). They did some PvMP and an Epic Battle, then he apologized and gave the Arkenstone back. He kept the pony.

Yeah I noticed this before f2p, it happened it seemed at or around the patch previous to f2p.

I noticed it for awhile and fiddled with my sound my speakers and everything then realized it was the game not me.
Not sure what changed or exactly when it changed,
but it gets very hard to do music like this.

Re: Music "directional" problems seeming much worse these days.

This explains a lot. I realized that we never had people in positions where they were not facing somewhat towards each other (even side-by-side) until last night. One was facing away and I ended up adjusting the volume on an accompanying instrument to hear the lead to no avail. I chalked it up to some f2p volume change. I'll try again tonight.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Based on our test session/concert last night, I'm thinking the directionality changed. Not done away with--but changed. *sigh* Now to find the optimal position/angle for music once more.

Seems to me to have improved some with the ROI update.

That Narrow cone of focus (20-30 deg's) with the volume drop off turning your forward focus (from a client/audience POV), that we got with F2P intro, seems to have been returned to moving to our stereo left or tight, without that marked volume drop off outside that forward cone.

A little dramatic with the stereo switch now, but greatly improved, without that volume drop off.

    +1 rep for the fix.

Could it be, that we finally have a Dev "Lurker" in the Music Forums here finally?!! /chuckle

If so....About this ridiculous Clarinet blow-gun stance we told you we all hated when we got that 2nd change of musical Stance poses, that turned them all into the most hated stance, per popular opinion......The dreaded "Clarinet-Blowgun" has got to go!

Can we finally get that looked into...Please?

Maybe a choice of musical stances, like /music1../music2.../music3, etc..........?
