    The Sound of Pipe Smoking

My apologies and general appreciation goes to the devs that create audio for LOTRO, BUT:

As a RL pipe-smoker (as seen in the picture at this link: http://my.lotro.com/turbinecommunity...er-galenswerd/ ), I am deeply wounded by the addition of a completely incorrect and petulant sound of pipe-smoking to LOTRO.

The best solution is to not have any sounds related to pipe-smoking. Real pipe smoking is in fact very quiet, and often barely audible.

Since pipe-smoking is so prominent in the LOTR books and lore - it would be wise not to sully the emote with audio that sounds like a stable hand shoveling dung.

    Thank you.

I just listened to it for the first time today... Very inappropriate.

LOL! Yes Ashenwoods, I kid you not, I thought the sound was coming from my open window next to my desk. I seriously thought someone was shoveling their driveway. I kept putting my head out the window - and then the dreaded moment came when I realized it was Galenswerd smoking his pipe! Surely the devs will not suffer this sound to remain.

I wanted to pull my hair out. Try listening to the pipe smoking sound with earphones on.

I also noticed I could not turn down player music. I was able to slide the sound bar but the sound did not decrease nor increase. There were others with the same problem (not being able to adjust the player sound volume) on Landroval.

Thumbs down Re: The Sound of Pipe Smoking

Yeah, it's a bit too loud at the very least. I thought it was cool at first when I heard that sound like a match striking and was all "Ooo!" but then my toon started making a really loud hanibal leckter 'fff fff fff' noise. xD Which was sort wrong for pipe smoking, you know?

Kind of a supplimental to this thread... If you do not want to change the sound effect, or eliminate it...

How about a slider on the system/options/audio panel that allows us to adjust emote volumes ?

There are several emotes (cough, fish slap sneeze to name a few) that the volume seem unreasonably loud compared to ambient sounds and other sounds. Having control on emote volumes would be a wonderful addition

Re: The Sound of Pipe Smoking

Aye, the stable hand shoveling dung/asthesmatic wheeze is obnoxious, as was the globally heard Horse Whistle before they removed that.

The ONLY part of that audio appropriate is the "match-strike" sound...if you can't keep that and lose the Iron-Lung ward sound after it, lose it all.

Poorly thought out on Turbine's part.

And yeah, I'd go for an Emote audio sound slider as well, Ashenwoods. And maybe also an opt-out for Forced emotes or at least make them so they don't break social stances, like smoking, dancing, etc.

Oh my word! It's OBNOXIOUS! In my chaplaincy work I am often with people who need ventilators to stay alive, and Turbine, you've done an excellent job replicating that sound! If you're going to assign a sound to pipe smoking, it should be nothing more than a barely-audible sizzle during inhalation. Just watch the Fellowship of the Ring movie to hear multiple samples of the correct foley you should be using. Pretty please, Turbine, either change the sound or just eliminate it altogether. It's awful enough that my pipeweed-smoking is over until it changes.

Re: The Sound of Pipe Smoking

I would like to add my support to this. I attended Ales and Tales the other night and the sound of three or four people all doing /smoke at once was a bit of a mood killer.

I know a guy who complained about this before when I was talking to him. He's my kinship leader.

it said it sounded gay. Personally, I don't care (especially since I don't smoke much). However, it would be better if it had no sound.

Re: The Sound of Pipe Smoking

The sound of Pipe smoking is really disruptive to gatherings like ales and tales. I am confident Turbine will either remove the sound or give us an option to disable.

THIS. My God. I was at my first Ales & Tales and the sound of pipe-smoking multipled numerous times over was so irritating, and it made listening to the bards and minstrels more difficult. Sounded like a roomful of heavy breathers on the telephone. Someone nearby joked that they need to have a smoking section just so they can shut off the sound in it.

I have to share the sentiment with the OP. I find it atrocious, and on top of that, extremely repetitive. I also feel the same about the drunken sound effects. They are wildly repetitive, and immersion-destroying. Please fix them, or get rid of them entirely.

    *hugs and kisses*

I just noticed this thread and I feel the need to bump it! As my friend Aevric said, "This sounds like a Sith convention!"

Re: The Sound of Pipe Smoking

With new list of amazing updates coming soon - I thought it imperative to bump this thread and let the devs know that we need pipe-smoking audio to be eliminated or volume control for it. So psyched about all the new updates coming and the pipe-smoking audio fix would simply make it Frodo-plasmic!
