Feedback: New Player Tips for Warg Stalker

Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on the classes in our Tell the Community Team threads. In keeping with that theme, we want your help. If you could give one tip to a new player about playing a Warg Stalker, what would it be?

Focus on getting DP before you go out and fight, and spend them so you aren't a greenie, otherwise you will be eaten alive.

    Buy pounce!

    First!

Learn icons! Freeps have a bevy of skills that resist wargs, so it's important to recognize immunity icons.

Slot Enhanced Stealth. You can't function with out it.

Make sure you get all your passives before focusing on skill sets. Learn the skill order in which to kill your prey. GET YOUR MAPS. Wargs who can't track freeps are just fodder for a raid and/or will never get the edge on ranking.

-Bleed and kite, especially after the next book, you need to avoid as much melee damage as possible.

-Use Throat rip on captains (blocks heals) rks, (stops them from using many high attunement skills) Minis (stops them from doing almost everything) LMs (same as minis) and hunters (stops the insta-fear).

-Don't run in packs, it will *not* help you learn your class.

Don't try to kill a guardian until you have shadow howler at rank 10.

Read all the tooltips before setting foot out of grams. Get a feel for what your class capabilities are and look at what abilities are available from the trainer. As someone said, purchase pounce first and enhanced skill stealth. Knowledge is power.

    Watch your chat window for

"You feel as though you are being followed..."

That's a hunter tracking you. You need to un-stealth and re-stealth as soon as possible or you'll suddenly find arrows hitting you. But be careful. If you're right next to a freep raid you should remember that the hunter is the only one who can see you, so you probably have some time to take cover first.

Re: Feedback: New Player Tips for Warg Stalker

    1. First DP spent should be on enhanced stealth. Way too painful to function without it.
    2. A lot of new wargs do not realize that you have a 50% positional damage bonus when attacking from behind. Do so whenever possible.
    3. Do not pounce burgs unless you are intentionally trying to get them to burn their find footing, OR if you know for a fact their find footing is already down.

All the above and travel in organized (in a group or raid) or disorganize packs (not in group be staying close to one) when first starting out. During large scale battles, you will be taking a lot of dirt naps due to being the 2nd most squishy creep class and you do not have any range ability so you will need patience. If you are going make an attack, make sure to have an avenue of escape, then tell everyone who you are going to pounce, and then leave through your avenue of escape.

Re: Feedback: New Player Tips for Warg Stalker

From a rank 0 warg that has been out only 3 times...

Don't leave Grams... If you leave you will surely die... :O)

Now seriously... As a rank 0 warg you will find yourself the target of many freeps. They can kill you fast and get easy renown. It is similar to PvE when you kill the adds that are easier to kill first and then focus on the boss. In a group fight, you are one of the "adds" that will be targeted first. This translates in a lot of deaths.

You can harass freeps healers and ranged dps, but you can't kill them alone. You may be able to land your pounce, but as soon as it happens you will find yourself surrounded by freeps that will grey bar and kill you very fast. One strategy is the land the pounce and then run. If you do that often enough you may be able to delay some of the heals.

    I found two different strategies:

1 - join a raid/group and be a team player following the raid leader instructions. You will die a lot because, again, freeps know they can kill you fast and get easy renown out of you. You will find yourself the target of many freeps playing this way. This is the way I have played so far.

2 - another strategy is to play solo and try to catch freeps that are hurting (low morale) and alone. Go for a quick kill. If you can't kill him in a few seconds, move on. I haven't tried this yet but sounds like an interesting strategy.

Farm DPs so you can buy skills, etc. They make a huge difference.

When farming DPs be aware of your surroundings and try to find an optimal position. For example, one of our repeatable quests requires us to kill slugs and bring the slug meat to the quest giver. The slugs are in the West part of the map just South of Grams. Some freeps will ride through the area to see if they can catch an unsuspecting creep killing slugs. I found that you should position yourself during the fight facing East (the direction where the freeps will mostly likely come from). If you do that you will be able to see the freeps riding towards you and you can decide whether to continue the fight and kill the slug or flee before the freeps get too close.

When collecting wood or stones (for other repeatable quests) use your mouse to rotate the camera and see if there are any freeps coming to you. Remember that during the few seconds it takes you to collect the mat, only your character needs to be facing it. You can rotate the camera and check if there are freeps closing in on you.

And the most important tip - stealth is your friend. Possibly the only friend you have in the Moors. Even if you don't have the enhanced stealth (it costs 4,000 destiny points), you should still use it. I use it all the time when I am out there.

    Good luck!

How to play as a warg

Group up in a pack in 6 or more
    or
Gank targets at low morale and hips/sprint when you lose 1k morale.

What? So wargs don't pack up for no reason anymore?

I was more referring to the fact that you seem to be under the delusion the only way to play a warg is pack or gank. Thee idea that every warg hips or sprints after losing 1k morale is stupid, and made up by somebody who clearly doesnt know the warg class very well. Either that, or its just what you do and you think it applys to ALL wargs.

I agree with this, in the same i way i agree with the saying there may be no right build, but there are wrong builds. And once again, saying wargs only gank and hips/sprint or pack up is the same thing as saying champs are masters of crowd control.

Join packs if you want to, and don't if you don't want to. It all depends on your playing style and how you enjoy the game to be honest, even though you will be marked as a "failure pack warg" because of annoyed freeps that get killed over and over.

Who are you to judge that?

If I made a moors ranged DPS build on my warden, and was just as squishy as a hunter, is that a wrong build?
Surely not just because it's different.
Same goes for a shield line or Recklessness(Melee DPS) line build.

If you know what to aim for there's no right or wrong with how you go about it.

He was most definitely spot on. You'd be amazed. Last time I saw a warg pack that actually stuck it out and fought without sprinting/HIPSing away after being focused was LONG before Isen came out. That's pretty sad considering the boosts wargs got.
