Recommended Heavy Armor for Home Stretch?

    Morning everyone!

My Level 59 Captain has been wearing the crit-crafted Sellsword's Armor for as long as he's been able; it's served him well through Eregion and Moria.

I'm approaching 60, though, and about to start the Lorien/Mirkwood final push. Is it worth getting up the funds to purchase a set of Superior Galadhrim armor? I know that's a 1 week cooldown guild recipe, so I imagine it'd be really pricy.

There's an alternative with the Heroic Nobles level 58 gear, I guess. That'd cost Supreme-Master Metalworker's Journals, though, and those tend to be costly as well.

I guess the upshot of my question is: should I upgrade? Or should I just focus on getting to 65 and getting radiance gear from dungeon runs (and use the level 65 crafted stuff to help?)

    Thanks!

The Moria set is actually pretty good stat wise and worth the grind.

I am partial to the Loth crafted shoulders for non-radiance gear, because I want the extra fate. The gloves of the twilight (level 65 Mirkwood crafted) are nice for everyday grinding.

I wouldn't blow money on the shield. You can get a decent one from either the Mirkwood barterers or from SH EZ mode

The Moria set? Really? Would you recommend it over the combination (3 pieces in each set) of the Lorien/DolGoldur sets recommended by mmorsel?

I mean, getting Moria Medallions doesn't seem like it would be that hard, especially at 65. I just don't know if I'd be able to get the pieces that drop off of the Watcher.

In the meantime, since the crit-crafted guild armor at level 60 seems rather overpricy, I'll just spend some gold on Metalworkers Journals and see about bribing people into making me the critted Nobles set. That's only level 58, I think, but should do me for a bit.

    Do you plan on Raiding?

If so, the Moria/Watcher armor set will not serve you for end game raiding. It doesn't have enough radiance. It is very good gear, though, and if you have the medallions kicking around in your vault there's no reason not to barter them for the Moria armor, just to get you through Mirkwood. Just don't sweat it if you can't get the full set. Eventually, you will have to grind the Mirkwood medallions for the Armor of the High Captain 3 piece set with +25 radiance each, and grind the Lothlorien medallions for the Hall-captain's armor 3 piece set at +15 raidiance each. That will put you at 120 radience, which is the bare minimum for doing hard mode in the Mirkwood raid.

If you don't plan on raiding, then yes. Get the Moria/Watcher set. The stats are excellent, and it is good for running the Watcher and Turtle raids if you get a chance. Augment it with the Armor of the High Captain and you can do DN and BG easy mode raids.

    Awesome, thank you very much!

I only have about, er... 9 Medallions of Moria ATM, I've been focusing on leveling lately. It sounds like something to come back to, though.

So, then... crit crafted level 58 gear to get me to 65, at 65 get the crit crafted heavy armor to give me a baseline (and it looks pretty cheap, relatively speaking,) and then run the snot out of instances to get my radiance for eventual raiding?

For some reason, I always feel better when there's at least a general plan. *grin*

With the sole exception of BG, I've run throughout Middle-Earth wearing the 25 rad helm and shoulders with the rest of the Moria 10 rad set - through almost everything possible EXCEPT BG with it.

Yes, it's worth it. It will be better than anything you can find crafted.

The quickest way to build up Moria medallions is to spam farm the Grand Stairs. In Hard mode you walk out of there with 7 medallions. Add the "World Tour" and it's another 5. A few GS runs will have you set. Good thing is GS is cooking almost 24/7. Just hang out in 21st or the muster camp and put out the word and you're in business!
