Re: At what point do you give up?

It is easy for me to say just stick with the first lvl 65 SA bow that you get, but mine was sweet, so its not really the same. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how long I would have kept trying, but since i haven't won a symbol since that roll, i would still be waiting. I doubt I would have made it a priority.

I think we'll be seeing an adjustment to the LI system, hopefully for the better. I know that forumites are a small portion of the game-playing population, but hopefully they will use the LI feedback threads as a source for change. If i have to start all over again when they up the level cap, i'm gonna be very cranky.

I deconned maybe 20 bows and 20 mainhand until I got some

decent legacies. maxed them out and called it a day. On my warden I took 10-14 javelins up to 30 until I got all 4 healing legacies then maxed it out and called it a day. I now am just maxing out random LI's so can deconn them for the runes. Then If Turbine ever decides to get off their **** and come out with an expansion that gives level 65 1st agers I will be all set.

I used to think this until a kinmate of mine showed me one that she had made that was like the single worst id I've ever seen. I've blocked the memory out it was so bad. But in general I do think they start off better on average.

This really sent my enjoyment of LIs out the door. I also had a lot of these stored up and ready for a decent bow, but alas none of them work on my 61+ weapons....

    Pretty much concur.

My playtime has drastically reduced and just the other day I noticed that in my vault i still have several million useless pre-MW IXP runes banked. It would have been nice if they at least provided some sort of conversion, even if the discount rate was lousy.

I just don't get having two incompatible systems going that are both broken in the same way.

You do realize that those are a great source of relics. Buy cheap second age LIs, max, decon and then you get a small 61+ rune and a ton of relics.

Good idea. I'll have to try that the next time I clear an LI slot.

Yes they are far from useless. I was able to get a tier 8 relic using up all my old XP runes. In a wierd sort of way that ended up being more useful to me.

Re: At what point do you give up?

I collect lvl 65 weapons as I am leveling up. Either through drops my other maxed out toons pick up, mutual exchange of lvl 65s with friends and kin or via purchase from the AH if the weapons are <250 silver.

When I hit 65, I transfer my relics to the best lvl 65 I have on hand as soon as my current weapon (typically lvl 63) hits a reforge. I continue to collect lvl65s until that temp lvl65 I am using hits 40. At that point I do a second transfer to the best weapon I have on hand. Level 41 means you can go to max DPS immediately on the next weapon, and have enough XP pills on standby to push it up from 40 to 41 immediately after you extracted the relics. This becomes my perm weapon – assuming it has satisfied my reasonable minimum requirement (Induction power, Focus power, Barbed arrow damage for bow), if not then I delay till 51. For this 'perm' weapon, I use all my scrolls, skirmish marks to bring everything to gold tier. Its not perfect but I can't go around without a maxed out weapon perpetually and I can always decon at 70 if a better weapon materializes.

It helps if you prioritize the legs you want and level/decon accordingly. In the case of my hunter, if a bow doesn't have 1 of the 3 legs upon ID, I decon at level 2. If it doesn’t have 2/3 by level 11, I deconed. If it doesn’t have 3/3 by level 21 I deconed.

Re: At what point do you give up?

I gave up leveling bunches of LIs when they nerfed the piss out of the bounty quests. Instead, I simply level one with a couple of good legacies and call it good enough.

As a matter of fact, my Hunter spends most of his time driving the bus. He isn't anywhere near as capable as my RK or Warden, so he spends lots of time not being logged in.

Does that mean it was easier to find the LI you wanted for your RK and Warden?

-1 for missing the point and generally failing to be coherent.
[CENTER][COLOR=DeepSkyBlue]There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. I have an amazingly smart and funny and gorgeous red head girlfriend w/ enormous boobs, an MBA for a top-ranked school, an awesome Jeep that's amazing to cruise around in the summer time, and I turned a layoff during the worst economic recession of the last thirty years into a promotion into a new field. I have two loving parents a few hours away I see at least once a month, and am writing a book.

In my off-time, I also happened to play a computer game a few nights a week, doing whatever it is I'd like to do.

Two nights ago I did an SG run, and gave the symbol away to the kinmate that rolled the highest. I still got 10 levels on one of my 'wastes of time.' Last night, I watched 4 episodes of Futurama. Tonight I'll be cooking dinner w/ my girlfriend and enjoying the summer sky.

I don't waste time; I choke-slam it and wring every last drop of awesome out of each minute.

Except while I'm waiting on the LAKSDLASKMDALSKDMASLKD coffee to finish brewing down the hall b/c some guy too the last bit and didn't make a new pot.

    --
Edit - btw, I did exactly that for my (1) and only 65 2A which is just dandy. If you read the last of my post I have (3) LI slots for grinding. One is just for level 2 breakdowns, (level disabled), the other is for 60 2A/1As I get in turtles/VMs/DNs which is also level disabled, and the other is for bows that might be better than my 2A. If I get a particularly tasty one, it replaces my level 2 breakdowns; otherwise, I'm only working on 1 at a time. Getting 1 LI to 31 isn't that hard if it's the only one getting ALL your XP, and that XP is coming from pills, quests, dailies, or whatever. I actually have one in that level 2 breakdown slot right now that turned out --- interesting ---, w/ both powers, -evade, focus threat, and QS threat down and **** I turned to AGI. (Was hoping for induction threat for lulz.) I have called it Hatty-Boy's PUGinator. (since, 'Break Glass in Case of Bad Tank' is kinda long). Might just yoink the threats off for fate and will, though.

I'm getting rusty, though. In FFXI when I got 'RL carded' for having an awesome BLM w/ all the sweet dorps, I'd have remembered to say something about being good looking and not fat on top of the job (and sports car, at the time. But I lived down south then.) I'd probably have thrown something in there about being good in the sack, too.

I just always like that people assume players don't have lives b/c they're successful in an MMO. I obviously care about the MMO to 'put in so much time', but half that time is while I'm watching TV or a movie, or on the phone w/ the family, or even when I'm writing notes for my book or planning/reconciling budgets for my work projects. And I'd bet a good chunk of us are like that, too.

Yeah, it takes time, but it doesn't take effort. dailies/solo skirms are not hard. Hell, my home point is @ drunk elves b/c it's 4K IXP / 125 destiny you can get in a few seconds of reading text. As a hunter, Mirrors are amazingly "fast" in terms of actually playtime. they take time for the travel via goat, but I do that while doing laundry, dishes, etc. DF/port 21 and rinse repeat. Easy IXP.

    Anyway.

Don't hate the hater, haters are funny. Have a laugh.

    ---

So I made the coffee, and had one cup, and it's empty again. If you take the last cup before noon, you make a new pot people! Jeez. And no one can use the 'meeting' excuse, either, it's 8. No one schedules 8am meetings, b/c the boss comes in at 9. :/

You have a great point. I turned my 20s hunter into my primary, and got him to 54, AND leveled him to Supreme Woodworker while taking 17 hours of a mathematics/chemistry double major in my senior year (involves research and a thesis paper, btw) all while working 30 something hours a week

...oh yeah, and I and my fiancee (now wife) were planning our wedding...

You can turn an amazing amount of hides into leather while reading a physical chemistry textbook, and on my keybindings 4,2,1,1,2,1,1,2,4...will kill anything that is no higher than one level above me before it kills me...knowing that means I don't have to look.

So yeah, video games are fun, but life is more fun.

Hunters have it easy. Any crafted 2nd age bow (yes, do SG 20-30 times for a symol) that has most of the important legacies (induction crit, focus crit, bleed damage) will be highly effective. Any weapon with Needful Haste and crit damage legacies is good enough. Some classes have to get a mix of 3-4 legacies on two different weapons and two different class items (one set for healing/buffing the other set for DPS) or they will be noticeably gimped.

Re: At what point do you give up?

No, Hunters have it easy because there's no legacies that have a significant impact on your regular rotation*. There's no analogue to a Champ weapon where missing one legacy means missing 15% damage on QS or PS. That would be a big hit to damage output...thank goodness we aren't burdened with legacies that enhance our regular use skills like Champs. There's no analogue to Champs or RK crit legs that add 30-50% crit magnitude to every skill in your rotation in one legacy. Yay, our crit legacies are smaller and they're split in to two instead of one legacy to dilute their impact. Power legs are split in half instead of "Battle Attuned Power Costs", accuracy legs are split in half instead of one "Hit More" legacy akin to a RKs -Resists, and so on.

That's pretty much making lemonade out of lemons though. We have weaker legacies that improve our performance less than other classes, so it's easier to get a decent LI. Go us?

*Other than BA Bleed. Oh irony, you are a cruel mistress.
