In about 15 minutes I'm heading to the local Irish pub for a corned beef sandwich and some Guinness for lunch. Most of the office is going, including the boss who will pick up the tab. When I get home the wife will have a couple loaves of yummy Irish soda bread ready to go with corned beef & cabbage for dinner...and of course some more Guinness.

It's a good day indeed. Happy St. Patrick's Day all!

Gross... I don't like to chew my beer before I swallow it. I'll have to settle for a Dos Equis at home tonight because I'm not stopping for anything else after work when I have my 11 week old baby in the car. It just feels wrong hauling a baby into the store to buy beer. lol.

She doesn't always drink beer, but when she does, she prefers Dos Equis. Stay thirsty, my hobbits.

Hat, I just knew there was going to be a picture of Jermaine here. The rest sorta surprised me, though. Also:

**** Guiness. If I'm going to drink, I'll drink some whiskey. Tastes better and is more cost-effective.

Random musings...

Lunch was very tasty.
It was very hard coming back to the office.
Dos Equis is good beer, and the commercials do rock, but it's definitely not as good as Guinness.
Guinness and a good Irish Whiskey were made for each other. Have both!

I've been snooping for some of the 12-year stuff, but no luck so far.

Regarding beer: I pretty much hate beer. I've tried a bunch (my friends are all beer nuts), and the only one I've found that I can remotely stomach is Newcastle, and even that only occasionally. I keep trying Guiness, as the descriptors used to describe its flavor are similar to those used for coffee, but it still just tastes like dirt to me.

Regarding coffee: Coffee is like ambrosia, but better. I could probably drink my weight in coffee in one sitting if pressed (or even encouraged). If coffee stopped being produced, I'd probably die of dehydration.

I had 3 VERY tasty Hoegaardens last Saturday with my boiled crawfish, shrimp, taters, and corn. It's better when it's draught, but I can tolerate it from a bottle as long as it's poured into a tall glass with a squeeze of lemon.

The 'keurig' on my desk (see above) is my push-button coffee button. I'm working on fiscal end, so the pile of folders there is kinda hiding it. But yeah, I'm coffee's little hobbit *****.

I'm wearing me guinness t-shirt from St. James' Gate itself and my oh-so-wonderful boss bought me a 6-pack of Guinness Draft (cans) and 6-pack of Guinness Extra Stout (bottles).

Re: Also not related to the Hunter Class, but also jermaine

More regarding coffee:

You guys ever go to a restaurant and order coffee? It always sucks, and the waitstaff can never keep pace with even a single coffee drinker, let alone a table full of them. Either that or it's a coffee shop and you pay through the nose for decent coffee that still doesn't get served to you fast enough. Or, God forbid, you're at Starbucks drinking oversyrup'd motor oil mixed with pimpleteen sweat (in which case I pity you).

So here's my plan: I'm going to start a restaraunt dedicated to good coffee. I don't mean an espresso bar, either, I mean coffee. The coffee will be brewed in large pots in the kitchen (which might be a piece of work getting large-batch coffee to taste decent), then will be piped to taps mounted to each table. You'll come in, be seated, and get your silverware and your coffee mug (not one of the piddling tea sippers you get at some restaurants, but a real ****ing coffee mug) before orders are taken. Coffee will be free with the meal (or possibly just free, if the food makes enough money). Other drinks will be pay-to-play. Food will be typical American restaurant fare, burgers and whatnot. Nothing fancy, but not McGarbage, either.

===

A restaurant coffee story: The first and only time I went to Buffalo Wild Wings, my friends and I sat down in a raucous din of TVs and drunk idiots. Service was decently quick, but when I told the waitress I wanted coffee, she responded, "Are you sure?". I should have walked out right there, but I'm a stubborn git.

"Yes. Yes I am. Coffee, please."

A short time later (remember, the service was decent, even if nothing else was), she shows up with a Dixie cup with a swizzle stick in it. I'm pretty sure it came from the McDonald's across the street. No cream, just the fake powdered stuff. No sugar at all (sugar is a necessary evil required to drink most restaurant coffee).

"Oh, ****." I said to myself.

I tried it, and sure enough it tasted like sewer water cut with chlorine. Not that the food was any better. I think that came from the McDonald's across the street, too, with about a 500% markup. Nothing like paying $7.50 for a burger that I could have paid $.29 for elsewhere. Needless to say, I've never been back.

Moral of the story: If the waitress asks "Are you sure?" when you order something, you should just cut your losses and leave the restaurant. You should also leave her a substantial tip, 'cause she just saved your tastebuds from an unpleasant experience.

Every time my husband and I go to Jamaica with my family, we bring back coffee. Now that's some good stuff.

The wife and I filled a whole suitcase with Appleton's Rum and coffee when we came back from our honeymoon. Neither lasted terribly long sadly, but life was good while it lasted.

Last time I brought home a bottle of Rum Cream. That's some tasty stuff on ice or poured over ice cream.

In the crock pot right now, 2.6 lbs of corned beef, 2 lbs of baby red potato's and a head of cabbage. Gonna make a horseradish sauce to go with it... and as much as I like Irish beer, I am a big fan of supporting California breweries.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

LOL @ that bottle. I'm going to have to find some of that.

The wife insisted we make room for three bottles of it in the suitcase. She didn't get any argument from me as it's definitely quite tasty.

When I used the last of it in a cup of coffee one Saturday morning before she woke up it was as close as we've come to an actual fight.

Arrogant Bas**** is good stuff! If you get a chance to try some Dick's Danger you should try that as well. Heck I have a huge list of great craft beers, when I travel I look for and sample as many local breweries (and coffee roasters) as a I possibly can.

Good Beer and Good Coffee FTW!

Beer and Coffee made by "the man" not so much!

My favorite seasonal beer that I buy an entire case of every year (except last year when I was pregnant) is called Skinny Dip, by New Belgium. http://www.newbelgium.com/beer/skinny-dip
It's a light beer that doesn't taste like a light beer.
