I'm going to take a wild stab at it and guess Maggot, as in Farmer Maggot. A maggot is, after all, a fly's larva.

This logging me out every 5 minutes is getting quite asinine. Arrrrggghh! But I digress.

    The clue is; Cataract

Sounds to me like the Falls of Rauros. Though there was another one, I don't think it was named.

The dark cloud Sauron sent to cover Minas Tirith before the city came under siege? My thought being that a cataract is a clouding of the lens which blocks out light.

Just curious, what is the reasoning on Rauros?

Just curious, what is the reasoning on Rauros?
Ptar is correct. Rauros it is. The reasoning is simple a cataract is a waterfall. I would have also accepted Dimrost, Lanthir Lamath, or Henneth Annun, though Rauros more exactly fits my perception of a cataract being a large, loud, powerful torrent. You're the riddle-master of the moment Ptar.

Hmm, I had never heard of that definition of cataract before. I learn something new every day!

You could have figured it'd be easy for Boraxxe. He's so well versed on the Mewlips (no pun intended).

    Here is a new one.

    Laughter

Well, just spending a bit of time re-reading The Silmarillion, so the 1st thing laughter reminds me of is the Vala Tulkas, who was famous for laughing in sport and in battle.

    Not Tulkas.
That was a good guess though and if the true answer did not fit so much more closely I would probably allow it.

I suppose it would just be too obvious if the answer was Urwen, nicknamed "Lalaith" (laughter) Turin Turambar's fist little sister, the second child of Hurin and Morwin.

And then again it might not be. Umm, nope, no, definitely not Luthien. Out of curiosity can you cite where she was actually called Morning star? It makes total sense, mind you, fairest of the children of Iluvatar and in the first age, the morning of the elves you might say.

Ah, the internet...what a cheat it can be.

I can cite where she is actually called "Morning Star"...about a million places on the web you can find words like this: "She is described as the Morning Star of the Elves..." But, that is not Tolkien generated stuff.

I have searched LoTR (all three volumes) and the Silmarillion and nowhere is that phrase (or anything like it) to be found.
Maybe in one or more of the non-canon works is where it lies. I do not have searchable copies of those. Maybe it is a myth.

But, that is not what you intended with your clue "Venus" anyway.

Well, Venus has been called both the Morning Star and the Evening Star.

Perhaps you are looking for Arwen the Evenstar of her people. That reference can be cited.

Indeed I was looking for Arwen "Undomiel" the fairest child of Iluvatar in the eventide of the Elves in Middle-earth.
I have no memory of the term morning star attached to Luthien "Tinuviel". The closest thing I can remember to someone referring to morning was when Gimli said to someone (Eomer?) that he could forgive him for preferring Arwen over Galadriel, for he merely loved the evening while Gimli loved the morning, or something like that.
Anyway the riddle stick is again yours, so hit us.
