    Lowest level SM Weaponsmith?

I had a low-level mule sitting around with a lot of weapon parts on him that I wasn't using, so just for fun I decided to advance him as a Weaponsmiith. (I already have a high level one). Well, one thing led to another, and well...

I just finished the near-death run through the Misty Mountains for the last crafting quest (unlock Master), so my mule is on track for SM Weaponsmith at Level 17. There were a couple of close calls - everything was on major aggro for my poor litle dwarf snack.

I'm sure someone must have done it at a lower level. So? How low level is your SM Weaponsmith?

(Please post of you did it recently - after the level restrictions on Rez and Captain Summons in Danger-Red zones - or if you did it a long time ago - before any such restrictions were in place.)

Thumbs up Re: Lowest level SM Weaponsmith?

I'd have to say that is quite a feat, even my 32 Hunter had some issues in MM for that quest.

I will admit to having gained SM on Farming by level 12, but that is a much less dangerous crafting set

I haven't come across anyone I know of to hit SM on any profession outside of Farming at that low a level. Kudos to you!

    Re: Lowest level SM Weaponsmith?

Hmm I'd say that's quite a bit of an accomplishment. I don't know what the special aggro level is now at MM but I would think 17 is below it...

Did you do this solo? or with people guarding you? Even it being a pick up quests the wargs there would have seen nothing but a tasty food at that level.

My lowest crafting GM (since GM to SM requires just talking to an NPC...) was L15 Tinker and that was LONG LONG before the special aggro got in the game. After that is a L19 Historian.

LOL well farming is a Gathering profession and requires No quest to level Technically, you could have a L2 SM farmer/prospector/forester since none of those actually require that char to move from one place (as long as they're "fed" the mats/money).

    Re: Lowest level SM Weaponsmith?

I was able to have my Weaponsmith stay Lvl12 until the last of the Crafting Quests, Strength of the Smiths Part IV, which required me to recently level them to Lvl20 to get it done. I was able to do it at such a low level because I knew precisely where to go, having done it 3x before.

Basically, to get the Deep-Iron Nugget you have to just run through MM without looking back until you get to the pond in the Eastern Bruinen Source. I've gotten to Helegrod on a lvl12 before without dying, but all it takes is one lucky hit from a ranged mob for you to die at that level. To be safe, I leveled to 20 so that I could sustain an occasional hit.

Once you get to the pond, just watch the pathing of the mobs and stay far out of aggro range (which that far below level is much larger than normal). If you time it right, you can get in to where the Deep-Iron Nugget is and Port out without the Goblins or Wolves being any the wiser.

EDIT: Of course, having an SM Weaponsmith without the Galadhrim & Maladhrim Rep Recipes is a little next to useless. Eventually, you'll feel inclined to level them and take them to Lothlorien and Mirkwood just to get the Rep Recipes to add to their repertoire.

    Re: Lowest level SM Weaponsmith?

I post here because my main is a WS (not yet SM, but is Guild Kin).

I have a few alts, most of whom are now kin in their respective guilds, and because of my (now) 59main, they're easy to level up... so my Historian is L22, Jeweller/Cook is 17 (getting close to SM in both), and MetalSmith is also 17. Since they don't move around much (ie, level), they'd all be SM's pretty easily. (all high end craft quests had help - except for the Historian - a hunter, so could run through and evade the mobs).

I would say, seeing if you can get a main character to SM at a low level would be incredibly impressive, otherwise, as said before, it'd be relatively easy to farm on the main, and supply the lowbie.

Of course, you could always just be a yeoman, and get farming/cook to SM fairly early....

Just wondering how you got access to a superior forge before 17 if that was when you first went to Rivendell. The quest that grants access to Thorin's Hall superior forge is level gated at 25 isn't it?

Please tell me, it drove me crazy having to lvl my metalsmith to 25 just to get access to that forge!

According to the Lorebook, Amber for Othrikir, the completion of which grants Superior Forge Access (which you get between The Strength of the Smith III and IV), is indeed gated to a Minimum Level of 25.

So, either this is a recent change, not really a requirement (which from the sounds of it, your experience shows that it is indeed a requirement), or the third possibility...the Superior Forges in Thorin's Hall may not work as intended and are allowing those without Superior Forge Access to use the Superior Forges there.

Now I am curious as I know that I didn't level past that on my last toon I SM'd in Weaponsmith, so I am going to put it to the test and see if they can use the Superior Forges in Thorin's Hall without the Passive Skill, and see if I can repeat my previous attempts on another toon that is below 25 (I should have enough Ore & spare Components lying around to do it all in one go).

Looks like a lorebook bug. It says minimum level 25, but I suspect that there's logic in place that displays (Quest Level - 5); I did all those quests under level. It is possible that it changed since - I completed it several months ago.

Thorin's Hall superior forges definitely require the quest to be completed.

That and tools. Getting the level 45 tools was the main reason I started to level my Metalsmith, who was level 10 when he hit GM a few years ago, back when it still took 2000+ AI ore to cap

I two-boxed it with a single L65 hunter as escort. I shot everything I saw. Fast. And when I was not fast enough, I dropped rain of arrows around the poor little dwarf-snack hoping to grab all the aggro.

Pretty much three hits was all it would take for the MM mobs to take him out. But I was a bit lucky and they never got more than two. Plus he's a Guard, and I think that might have helped a bit.

Here he is. The gear is what he wore on the MM trip. Not at all exciting.

But yeah: He got SM Weaponsmith and is currently holding at L17. I make T3-T6 sure-shot shard-crit items when my emblems are up. And I make T3-T4 normal crit items 1/day by using guild recipes and crit-bonus ingredients. No scrolls. So while my chances are 50% to crit instead of 83%, it's good enough and still profitable. I spend 15 minutes doing it before I go into work each morning. And yes, I use the forges in Thorin's Hall.

    He now has 40g.

Good point. But for those of us who never have much luck with the RNG in LOTRO, it doesn't really matter if our tools have +20% or +8% as we still have to try 5-12 times (or much, much more) before we get a Critical Success.

But that also brings up the point that you can't use the Critical Component Scrolls/Books either at lower levels, so unless you have Beryl Shards and Mithril Flakes to burn...

Kindred in Weaponsmith Guild. And I buy all necessary materials at the AH. If the price is right.

That's pretty impressive, IMO! Last time I helped a too low level out, he was a L15 trying to do the Woodworking quest in Giant Valley. This was before the "self revive" tool so he really needed help. I swear mobs I didn't even know existed was zeroing in on him. Bad luck or what, but ended up with a L50 Hunter (me) and a L50 Cap (kinnie) and STILL couldn't get him to finish lol.

Lv 14 GM tailor who can be SM in a second if I ever want.
    He's lv 15 now

My weaponsmith did it at lv 14 as well I think for GM (Pre Moria)

    Achieved level 15

His crafting isn't on there, so it must have been a long time before that.

So that quest is doable at low lvs.

    Re: Lowest level SM Weaponsmith?

Amber for Orthicar can't be gated at that level now. As a friend on Brandywine helped my level 22 do it only about a week ago.

With help, one can get very low levels to supreme, though the aggro thing can make it interesting. With my hubby's lev 60 minstrel's help, my hobbit burg got to supreme at level 23 or so. Could have done it sooner, but I like to wait until my characters get to undying before doing the Rivendel trek.

    Nice!

It was only after I did it at L17 that I wondered at how low a level I could do it at. That prompted my OP. But L14 is pretty low! I do recall that I gained a whole level on the final quest because I was grouped with my Hunter and I got ~200xp per kill. And I got about 4000xp for the final crafting quest. That's a lot when you are L17. Can't avoid the quest XP, but I could have avoided the group XP. Meh. Hindsight.

Not sure I want to burn all the mats to try it again on another toon at an even lower level, but I might be tempted. Maybe some day.

Ironically he would have been lv 9 if not for the level boost they gave us with book 7.

Tailor/woodworker/jewler T3/4 quest is just collect logs and repair trestlebridge.

My T4/5 quest was to kill a drake in Ram Duath.

I had already opened trestlebridge and Esteldin for the Superior bench. Was a fun little run to Angmar. Went in the back way by by Augheir had a lv 60 mini kill a few worms then pull and kill the drake for me.
