Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

Do you have any idea how strange it's been these last few weeks? I've done the following...

    1. Changed my shot rotation to include Barbed Arrow as early as possible for the bleed.
    2. Looked at the bleed on Barbed Arrow and said "Wow, that's nice."
    3. Pulled multiple mobs so that I could pretend I'm a Warden: Get something to 500 life then move to the next mob while my bleed kills the first.
    4. ID'd multiple level 65 3rd Age bows/crossbows and said "Damnit! No Barbed Arrow Bleed legacy again!"
    5. Slotted the Barbed Fury trait.
    6. Admitted to slotting the Barbed Fury trait.
    7. Told people that Barbed Arrow is your new best friend.

It's like I'm Bizarro Findros. Nothing makes sense any more.

Out of curiousity, NAT, do you let the bleed on BA run out or do you try to use Scourging Blow before it runs out for the bonus? With the BA legacy, do you think just letting BA run its course is better for overall damage?

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

It sort of depends on how close something is to death. If SB will kill it (or put it very close) I might use it. If the thing has lots of life left I'll just reapply another bleed and keep using other skills. Our contribution to melee damage from Might is reduced now, so melee skills don't have as much pop as they used to (which wasn't much to begin with). Unless I had a melee weapon with some melee legacies leveled I'd be inclined to ignore SB outside of the occasional use just for fun/variety when something is low on life.

I had BA the legacy on my L60 1st Age and loved it. I'd pull Crows with QS then one BA and walk away...they'd just fall over from the bleed. The bleed is now much cooler than the pop you get from Scourging Blow. The funniest part? If you build high Fate in to your build already for the ICPR your bleed ticks crit a lot.

PS: Do you see this CWood? We're talking about maximizing Barbed Arrow's bleed.

Personally, I am waiting to see five hunters out in the Moors pop bleeds on a target then get a sandwich and watch the results come in...

Does anyone know if stats on any of the jewlery, weapons or armour were improved?

Some very small bumps on some L60 stuff. 1-2 points of base stats on armor sets, a point or three on end game teals (my Earring from the Watcher is a smidge better). Nothing earth shattering to be sure, just enough to provide a little more separation from the purple radiance instance drops is what it looks like to me.

It should all be in the lorebook fairly soon.

I actually had to move barbed arrow to where PS was on my bar, I'm so programmed to ignoring it.

BTW NAT, you ever able to round up one of those emblems?

It actually will fit in pretty well for my 3/0/4 PvE build. I always vacillate on what to slot for my 3rd Bowmaster trait anyway. Now I will just stick with the Barb.

Raiding and PvP will be different though since I go 2/1/4. Don't want to give up Deep Concentration in raids, so I think I will just drop +SB damage. Can't give up Heightened Senses in the Moors, so once again +SB damage will have to take a back seat.

I saw a warden post his 3rd age sword is 71 dps and his 2nd is 74 dps, so I would think range weapons too are going add 3-4 dps, and about 10 points on top end.

There were a handful of items (mostly around the L50 range) that lost some strength in their rating-based stats.

[item]Ferolloch[/item]'s ranged crit dropped from 212 to 106
    [item]Forochel's Majesty[/item]'s evade dropped from 414 to 204
[item]Earring of Discovery[/item]'s ranged crit dropped from 204 to 102
    [armour]Elrond's Exquisite Cloak[/armour]'s evade dropped from 430 to 212
[item]Textured Gold Necklace[/item]'s wound resist dropped from 424 to 318
    [item]Ora's Band[/item]'s parry dropped from 192 to 96
    [item]Ranger-make Ring[/item]'s parry dropped from 212 to 106
    [item]Goblin-town Gem[/item]'s parry dropped from 212 to 106

I imagine there are others, but those are ones I still had either in use or in a vault.

Oh, one thing I just remembered that I don't think I've seen posted so far:
Distracting Shot damage has been all-but removed. Most hits are for 1 point of damage, tho I've seen it hit for up to 14 points of damage in a skirmish run. I don't recall seeing a dev give a reason for this, perhaps someone else can chime in on that.

This really blows if it is true. DS is an induction based skill that can be resisted. It won't kill Hunter DPS, but it makes no sense that we could waste time firing a shot for nothing. B/P/E/Miss is one thing, now resists too? Take the induction out and I'm okay with this change.

The good news: Barbed Arrow is still in the "1" quickslot because I never got around to moving it when I stopped using it at L30.

The bad news: Now I need to figure out which slow to open with. For solo work I could see slotting the Barbed legacy with 4+ Bowmaster, so will there ever be a time to open with QS because of the greater slow?

Bonus: Scourging Blow is still in the "9" slot, too. Every once in a while I would hit it by accident in melee.

Traditionally, first major patch post release. Honestly, it's a tradition I wouldn't mind seeing broken.
The smallest mimes of the gods of snow do not wish at all in their life that the great duty of the defences of the wine be diminished.

Which is exactly why I'm not getting SoM until at least after the first patch. I'm tired of the "buff to get subs then nerf the next patch" game.

For solo S:S work, I have been getting good results with QS>PS>Barbed>PS>NH>ISB as an opening sequence. It gets your bleed and slow in early enough to get ISB off without setback and still leaves you in a good place to get a good chain of insta-cast skills off once the mob closes to melee.
[CENTER][COLOR=DeepSkyBlue]There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs. [/COLOR] [/CENTER]
