Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

65 3rd age bow/xbow are both 81.3 dps maxed. If I recall, the top end is 200.

The top end is higher than that. My 1st Age L60 Bow was 196. I think it's 237...but need to log in to check.

It was bumped twice since I got in to Beta. Physical DPS took a nasty hit when speeds were normalized. Don't worry, the DPS rating on weapons in SoM doesn't mean at all the same thing as it does under the current combat system. You're not going to do eleventy billion damage because your bow says 80+DPS.

    1. Barbed Arrow is your new best friend.
      • S:Strength and Burn Hot increase the size of the BA bleed by the listed percentage.

    2. The BA Bleed Legacy is now one of our better legacies. 50% more damage on a properly scaling bleed is a healthy bump in DPS.
    3. Skill timings and rotations are quite nice. Things are faster and flow well from one skill to the next. No more annoying pauses when transitioning from melee to ranged skills and vice versa. No annoying pauses anywhere really.
    4. Rain of Thorns is flagged as an 'Immediate' skill. That means that no matter what you're doing you can mash RoT and the skill fires off now.
    5. The ISB animation is beautiful. No, they didn't slow crossbows down to bow speed.
    6. New or modified legacies of interest...
      • New Legacies

        • Merciful Shot Cool Down: Cap @ -10sec, ranged weapon legacy
        • S:Precision Critical Magnitude: Cap @ 13%, melee legacy. Impacts all attacks, not just induction/focus skills.
        • +AOE Targets: Cap @ +5, melee legacy. Yes, you can get 10 target RoA/RoT and 7 target Low Cut.

      • Modified Legacies
        • Induction Bow and Focus Bow Crit Magnitude now cap at +25%.
        • Needful Haste now caps at +15 seconds.
        • Agile Rejoinder Heal now scales to a 50% chance to activate; heal is almost 100/tick. It's a nice legacy now.

    7. Bow Chants stack to 50.
    8. New tier of Breach Finder chants.
    9. Hunter ports (all skills in fact) can now be used with a right click from the character 'Skills' tab. No need to use quick slots now if you need to reclaim some space.

    Thoughts...

The class plays much better under the new system. Better combat flow in general and a decent bump in damage. As was mentioned though power is going to be rough. If you're one of those 'I always run in Stance:Strength in groups and I never have power problems even with 700ICPR' get ready for a shock. Make friends with a Captain and steal every banner he owns except for Victory. You're going to need to stance dance or marry a LM in a fight of any appreciable length even if your tank can handle the threat.

    Skirmishes are fun.

The new legacy system has produced good weapons for my Hunter, Guardian, and Champ...all in only one or two tries. This is a huge change from Moria where I went through literally dozens of 3rd Age items for those classes before finding something good. Those good weapons need lots of work though: all the right legacies are there but the tiers are all low to middle of the road. This means you'll be grinding skirmishes to get scrolls to upgrade their tiers. So far it feels like it's easier to get a good legacied weapon but the tiers will all require effort to be gold. Some people won't mind, some people will hate it.

i think i just came, because holy **** thats awesome. bout time we got some love

Yeah, whatever we gained form the bow animation being fixed, won't apply to xbow users, but even on the xbow, I'm pretty sure ISB>Pen is coming out faster than current due to the overall combat changes.

Certainly, power costs are always gonna be an issue. And in S:S, I was taking a decent break between every fight to power back up, but for anything similar to fighting pulpums (so on-level melee elites w/ no special buffs, etc), I don't think there's anything misleading in saying people can expect their DPS to go up 15-20%. Power usage is going up due to the faster skill rotations, but not oppressively so.

On the negative side; power consumption is through the roof, we're still not balanced well enough for group play and we do not get any new skills. Sorry, but a rep-gated port does not count as a skill in my book.
Power consumption is up, yes. To say it's through the roof is an exaggeration. No, technically we didn't get any new or improved skills. But I consider a viable Barbed Arrow a much improved skill. Currently we have no effective bleeds. We're getting a very nice bleed.

Again, you can't just look at the DPS value and go OMGWTFBBQDMG!!!1one

Bows/Xbows are normalized at 2.2 speed now. So the +skill damage is lower than on Live on an otherwise identical weapon. Base weapon DPS levels were boosted to offset that difference.

You will, however, be able to pile up a load of damage in a hurry with the ISB fix, autoattacks occurring underneath skill animations for "free" damage, lack of awkward pauses during combat, and a very nice BA bleed ticking the whole time.

DPS numbers are completely different on weapons than they were before. They are normalized for weapon speed and the formula for weapon damage has changed. 120-180 damage will not mean 300-400 base damage.

My response was #@$@# that's some good DPS. hmmmm, my auto-attack is hitting for lower amounts......(time passes while I get used to it)......I think I really like the changes even though I'm burning through power faster.

yes dps is more than fine in beta.

power is not balanced yet... hopefully devs to stealth buff... reduce costs by 10%.

iirc they did improve fate-regen ratio but still room for improvement.
i think i went from 940 icpr to 1040 with the change.

Switching to bows will get me 2% more damage, and i never dealt with the ISB problems anway since i always got xbows in the past.

    I lol'd seriously.

    ------------------------

The ISB animation is better on both xbows and bows. The rate of fire timing is good on both but the skill also got a timing adjustment. The huge delay after the skill animation completes is gone and you can still chain PS after it to negate what little delay is still there. The ISB fix shouldn't be under-rated or poo-pah'd at all. The skill is better all around.

I would really like to see Bright Campfire get a fix someday in the future to apply its current buff (which is really tiny) work in combat and have its out of combat buff seriously bumped. The skill almost costs more than it's worth.

i am glad for the new animations. i was playing my hunter yesterday and the dead time between PS and then QS i was like omg how long is it going to take.

    2 or 3 seconds of non-dps = bad.

with BA now back it is cool. as for power i run the huntsman line of 4 and run a focus burn with penatrating shot.

i think i will add in the arrow bleed just to add some punch.

not sure what i will take out but i will find something.

i am really excited about the changes to the travel skills. i was running out of room and no i can get rid of a whole bar of travel skills (cheers).

i guess it will be time to go find a new legendary weapon my first age sucks.
