NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

For those of you who've been paying attention to my S:S vs S:P tests, I've been doing the same on the beta side. I'm not gonna go into too much detail here, but using the same L60 hunter copied over to Bullroarer, I'm seeing around 19% increase in my DPS vs Pulpums in both S:S & S:P. I'd say that's positive..

Coulda told you that but Im very pleased to hear it. Now to log on tonight and play with my Hnt Traits and alter it. I may simply keep 2 BM at a minimum for the Crit Bonus

Heightened Senses though...MUST stay on.

The change you have all been waiting for:

ISB ANIMATION IS FIXED!!!

It is just so, so beautiful to queue up ISB > PS and see a bullet-stream of arrows and a wall of yellow numbers float up over that mob 5, 6 in a row.

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

At this point in time, my only complaint with my Hunter is power consumption. However, that seems to be a concern across most classes at this point with the sped-up combat. I'd probably be in a much better spot if BotR had never been scaled back, but oh well.

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

I should add that 2 of the biggest changes that lead to that DPS improvement are 1) Barbed Arrow bleed now DOESN'T SUCK!!! and 2) ISB animation has been fixed.

That's right, we now have a useful bleed! Pull BA out of that box where it's been sitting right under Fleet Stance and put it back on your quick bar. And that Barbed Arrow Bleed damage legacy that's been shunned all this time? Now it's in with the cool kids..

And by fixed, yes, the bow now shoots very similar to how the xbow fires on live. It's very quick.

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

Some other juicy tidbits:

-Barbed Arrow is now a killing machine. Its bleed damage scales based on Ranged Offense Rating, and is affected by Strength Stance, Bowmaster line, Burn Hot, scrolls, anything that buffs Ranged Offense. In 4BM S:S mine ticks for 80 without the legacy, which would boost it to 120/tick. You WILL work this into your rotation now.

-Combat timing has been tweaked to the point that it feels very similar to Live, but faster. Since your skills will override auto-attack animations (but not the AAs themselves; you still get the damage most of the time) it is easier to burst a ton of skills out in a big hurry.

-Because of that, power usage is up.

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

To be more accurate, Rate of fire is up, but in some cases, individual skill damage (for all classes) is down a touch, which results in greater power burn. I believe that some aspect of this is WAI, but there are a few things to mitigate that like fate providing a larger contribution to ICPR.

Not a whole lot of very class specific down and dirty group testing was done other than to hammer out bugs in the instances themselves (a LOT of which WAS done) so the power burn rate for each of the classes are probably mostly fine.

I know that I personally will have to spec for more ICPR.

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

Some points people might find interesting.

1. Barbed Arrow is your new best friend.
• S:Strength and Burn Hot increase the size of the BA bleed by the listed percentage.

2. The BA Bleed Legacy is now one of our better legacies. 50% more damage on a properly scaling bleed is a healthy bump in DPS.
3. Skill timings and rotations are quite nice. Things are faster and flow well from one skill to the next. No more annoying pauses when transitioning from melee to ranged skills and vice versa. No annoying pauses anywhere really.
4. Rain of Thorns is flagged as an 'Immediate' skill. That means that no matter what you're doing you can mash RoT and the skill fires off now.
5. The ISB animation is beautiful. No, they didn't slow crossbows down to bow speed.
6. New or modified legacies of interest...
• New Legacies

• Merciful Shot Cool Down: Cap @ -10sec, ranged weapon legacy
• S:Precision Critical Magnitude: Cap @ 13%, melee legacy. Impacts all attacks, not just induction/focus skills.
• +AOE Targets: Cap @ +5, melee legacy. Yes, you can get 10 target RoA/RoT and 7 target Low Cut.

• Modified Legacies
• Induction Bow and Focus Bow Crit Magnitude now cap at +25%.
• Needful Haste now caps at +15 seconds.
• Agile Rejoinder Heal now scales to a 50% chance to activate; heal is almost 100/tick. It's a nice legacy now.

7. Bow Chants stack to 50.
8. New tier of Breach Finder chants.
9. Hunter ports (all skills in fact) can now be used with a right click from the character 'Skills' tab. No need to use quick slots now if you need to reclaim some space.

Thoughts...

The class plays much better under the new system. Better combat flow in general and a decent bump in damage. As was mentioned though power is going to be rough. If you're one of those 'I always run in Stance:Strength in groups and I never have power problems even with 700ICPR' get ready for a shock. Make friends with a Captain and steal every banner he owns except for Victory. You're going to need to stance dance or marry a LM in a fight of any appreciable length even if your tank can handle the threat.

Skirmishes are fun.

The new legacy system has produced good weapons for my Hunter, Guardian, and Champ...all in only one or two tries. This is a huge change from Moria where I went through literally dozens of 3rd Age items for those classes before finding something good. Those good weapons need lots of work though: all the right legacies are there but the tiers are all low to middle of the road. This means you'll be grinding skirmishes to get scrolls to upgrade their tiers. So far it feels like it's easier to get a good legacied weapon but the tiers will all require effort to be gold. Some people won't mind, some people will hate it.

That 19% number is misleading. It is only attainable by burning almost all power and the animation fix does nothing for XBox hunters.

That said, I agree that there are several positives for hunters; the increase in crit magnitude, the bow animation fix & barbed arrow changes are all very nice.

On the negative side; power consumption is through the roof, we're still not balanced well enough for group play and we do not get any new skills. Sorry, but a rep-gated port does not count as a skill in my book.

This was a big shocker to me when I did my first few IDs. No, it's not bad luck, the tiers really do start that low. For those not in beta, please be aware of this so you're not completely and totally shocked on Dec 1 and screaming "OMG, I have horrible f-ing luck with tiers!!!"

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

All of this news sounds awesome! Thanks for the info guys.

I happen to be one of the few Huntards that still regularly used Barbed Arrow in PvP (on Wargs and Weavers mainly to pop stealth and bleed in burrow). Good to hear it will have some real sting now.

Glad I built my ####### with mucho Fate. Sounds like a boost in icpr will be essential in the new combat system. Also sounds like many of us will be making the decision to trade Morale for Power to make the pool deeper as well.

The new combat system sounds pretty awesome. Sounds like this will help Hunters in a big way, especially in close combat. Being able to put out more in a burst will be very helpful, especially in those PvP 1v1s where the opponent tries to stifle our attacks.

Bow ISB animation now WAI!! Woot! It's back to the pew pew for me!

One question though. A lot of the legacy bumps and other changes seem to all be focused around Bowmaster. Will Huntsman also feel the love?

Re: NDA Lifted :: Changes ARE positive for hunters

There are still some bad legacies in there... I personally am not fond of the Find the Path Movement speed increase and the aforementioned -DF CD. But with the improved legacies (Barbed Arrow Bleed chance and Agile rejoinder heal chance) and new legacies like the S:P crit mult as well as the +AoE targets... well, things are better'ish.

I still have some fundamental disagreements with the LI system, but there are some improved legacies and its not nearly as easy to get a total garbage LI... it is also entirely improbable that you will get a supremely awesome LI. Personally, I am only going to shoot for 3 useful legacies per weapon... asking for anything more feels like tempting fate.

You will get a nice bump to ICPR and you will probably suffer far less from power issues than most Hunters will. I know that I will have to re-think a few things in my build since I like to find the lowest possible sustainable threshold for ICPR and dump everything else into avoidance and mitigation... in addition to agi and vit obviously. My fate is relatively low (200'ish) but I stack on a lot of ICPR items, so from Live to Beta, I only got a 100 pt icpr boost, I would suspect a 400 fate build would get a 300-400 ICPR boost... even if it was as "low" as 200-250, its still a substantial increase and you probably will have no real power problems.

True, but it doesn't change the fact that I hate how often it crops up... you'll find out why when they release the dev chat on LI's. Not saying that it shouldn't exist, just saying that it should not be given the reverence that its getting.
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Nice, that makes me feel really good. I may also try to add to my base power pool (around 2100-2200 atm).

Did anyone find out what the max weapon dps is for a lvl 65 third age and second age bow ?

I think my lvl 59 first age xbow was 70 dps on beta. never got to see anyone with a max dps bow lvl 65.

If I remember correctly I'm at ~1030 ICPR on the Beta. That's with mid 300s for Fate, 2 Peerless Turtle bracelets, a Lothlorien Dagger off hand, a T6 Gem, and a new T9 Gem (~105ICPR). I'll check when the server is back up for exact details.

I wouldn't expect to get anything crazy like 300-400ICPR. I went up around 50ICPR when they increased the contribution from Fate then picked up a smidge more with the new gem.

I'll get the actual numbers on L65 3rd Age weapons when I can log back in. I want to say 81.Something is the DPS.
