We did not have a burglar on that run either.
Not having a burg hurts but you only loose alittle less then 10% dps.

ok so you want me doing 120k-130k of the damage. That is 17-18% of the overall damage. That means if we split the DPS between people, there should only be 5.555 people DPSing. Please tell me how that works...... /sigh at unrealistic people
Or maybe you are doing something wrong

I do not slot the class trait to increase focus from critical shots because I run 3 bowmaster, 4 huntsman.
Like maybe this. How do you not slot deadly precision its bar none the best bowmaster class trait. Its so far ahead of everything else its not even close.

You should stop making sweeping generalizations.

In my weekly group I need power when I take my Hunter, and it's not because I don't know what I'm doing. It's because I'm in S:Strength blowing through power at an ridiculous rate. The other people that bring Hunters (1-2 Hunters are generally present) are doing the same thing, going full out from the second we engage. Who should the LM give power to instead? Our Minstrels are in Warspeech the whole fight, so they can use some because their nukes are expensive as heck. Other than that no class is anywhere near low on power...no other class burns through that much power in 2 1/2 minutes.

Tell me, why I should forbid my LM from helping the Hunters deal as much damage as possible? Do you simply assume that every Hunter and every group/raid should be playing the same way as you?

10% plus QS for threat, and you're not gaining much DPS via S:P unless you're having accuracy issues. In the Turtle fight with capped Agility and Counter Defense dropping avoidance you shouldn't be missing anything.

You also get a power cost reduction as pointed out above.

I'm aware that endurance stances reduces power, I'm aware that sloting graceful draw increases that stance. I'm away what endurance stance quickshot does. But I'm also aware that sloting that trait hurts your dps and the trade off usually is not worth it. Besides you don't need to stay in endurance very long to reduce your threat enough to avoid aggro. Endurance is a situational stance not really one you should stay in.

Rregarding the LM, there are much better targets for an lm's power. In order Minstrel, Captain, Guard that need it first.

Minstrel (healer in general) should be top priority, yes. Captain, yeah, they're probably up there too since they are often backup healers & rezzers. Guards are important, but have significantly lower power needs than most other classes. They also have ways of giving themselves power. I would say, in a PUG, the LM(s) probably should be pretty exclusive with who they're giving power to since they won't know the tendencies of those they're playing with. But if the LM is familiar with their fellows, he should be able to spread the power heals around a little more.

There should be a hierarchy to who the LM gives power to, but I don't think there's any reason to have any class necessarily off of that list.

Not to derail the thread, but there's no reason a captain should need power during the turtle. If you stop spamming your DPS skills, you'll have plenty of power for healing, the occasional shout/devastating blow, and buffing your oath-brother.

If you're going to continue making assumptions instead of reading what I'm actually typing there's no point in further discussion. Feel free to keep telling everyone that they're doing it wrong though, it's amusing.

refresh/haste were spells w/ short durations that continuously had to be applied to keep everyone at max throughput. An XP party w/ a RDM would chew through content pretty quickly. Add Bard to to the group for 'Mages Ballad' which stacked refresh and haste effects w/ the RDMs spells, and you were able to keep 'chaining' XP - for bonus experience points.

It was the difference between earning merits quickly, or... not as quickly.

So yeah, I played my RDM in 'meripo' all the time, b/c it was the fastest way to earn merits (over my PLD or BLM, although BLM could make the best XP solo)

To think Red Mage almost Killed the old man
Reminds me I have to get caught up on those comics. 8 Bit Theatre I go!

After picking up FF 11 and playing again for a little bit I was lvling my character as a Black Mage since I knew Id do some good damage but then switched to Red Mage around lvl 5 and just tore to hell and back with my little Hume Red Mage in some starter gear.

Then my month trial ended and I didnt up my account. Alas the Carrion Worms will be safe from my mini evil wrath.

Re: An Objective DPS Comparison: Are Hunters a Tier 1 DPS Class?

Back to the topic of turtle parses, I have some questions for the hunters who have neared or exceeded 500 DPS.

I'm assuming you all had 1st age bows/xbows to achieve that..

    1. What scroll did you have on your bow, Beleriand, Westernesse, Beast damage?
    2. Did you have any special buffs (the standard cappy set -oathbreakers/IDOME/focus- and battle ward scrolls are assumed)?
    3. Did you have any special debuffs on the turtle?
    4. Did you use oil? Fire or light?
    5. Did you stance dance, what did you use at roughly what points in the fight?
    6. Did you use Burn Hot (or Cool)?
    7. Did you have aggro for any significant period?
    8. NEW: Did you use Press Onward?

..that's all I can think of right now..

Re: An Objective DPS Comparison: Are Hunters a Tier 1 DPS Class?

I did 505 with my L59 1st Age Bow and 497 with my L59 2nd Age Crossbow (back on page 30). Same gear for both, which I can list if you like, but the only really important point was 5/6 Great Bow for both so no NH bonus.

    1. Beleriand scroll on both weapons
    2. Standard buffs for me: IDOME, Breach Finder scroll, Battle+Warding Lore. No To Arms! for either parse.
    3. Standard debuffs, but we do like Burglars. Both runs had 3 of them (Reveal Weakness and Counter Defense x3), plus a Captain with full Telling Mark. Our LM brings out the Bear for Shatter Arms as well.
    4. No oils were used in the harming of this animal.
    5. S:Precision for 15-20sec while the Champ established aggro. After that S:Strength until the end. I stayed at range for proper auto attacks both runs.
    6. Burn Hot was used at ~100k to go in each fight.
    7. I did not have aggro in either fight. The tanking Champ does ludicrous damage, plus I used Beneath Notice before Burn Hot just in case.
    8. EDIT: No, I didn't use PO in those runs. I have used it in longer Turtle runs though so I can push harder up until the last 100k but still have full power for Burn Hot at the finish.

I'd have done better with the 1st Age if I'd picked a Crossbow instead of a Bow. Silly me. I'm sure I could squeeze a little more out now that I've got the full VM set but I'm not allowed to bring anyone besides my Guardian.

Wow, I have a similarly equipped hunter, but get nowhere near that. The difference are:

    We only run one burg.
I have to run endurance until about 250K then switch to strength. If I switch sooner, I get aggro and usually die.

Anywa, I do around 370 DPS with 5/6 Great Bow, a level 59 first-age bow, and pretty good gear.

Re: An Objective DPS Comparison: Are Hunters a Tier 1 DPS Class?

I wouldn't sweat the differences, Jeger. Anytime I've parsed higher than 350, it's been b/c the champion or guard in my group was eating Nurnian's face. (And my highest parses even in those conditions are around 400.)

If you have someone else wrecking it, a hunter can go S:S longer/harder.

I do think NAT's group (and results) really are about optimal for hunter DPS. I don't see a hunter realistically breaking 500 DPS w/o a melee heavy in the group getting the buffs and roleplaying a wrecking ball for 700DPS - which means they're holding hate b/c they're out-DPS the hunter even w/ the S:S threat. (And even under ideal conditions w/ a mega-champ kickin' so much turtlebutt that the hunter can ALSO get buffs, I don't see a hunter breaking 550, 575 **TOPS**, before they still rip agro, dropping DPS b/c of AA's being melee) But again, the pre-requistites are giving a heavy melee the buffs FIRST, so they hunter can just rock out S:S after initial pickup. How efficient is that, when you could give them too... another melee?

Agro is the problem. As NAT says: his group wrecks it, but they make him bring his guard. And my group makes me break-out my RK, and my RK has 1/5th the time investment.

Re: An Objective DPS Comparison: Are Hunters a Tier 1 DPS Class?

What scroll did you have on your bow, Beleriand, Westernesse, Beast damage?
Belly Scroll for me. I refuse to continually change it but thats only because Im tired of doing the solo instances. I did use the Beast Damage for some time though.

Did you have any special buffs (the standard cappy set -oathbreakers/IDOME/focus- and battle ward scrolls are assumed)?
Battle and Warding Scrolls with the everyday Captain Buffs and sometimes for short periods the Ballad of War bonus from the Minstrels.

Did you have any special debuffs on the turtle?
I bring a LM who is fully slotted for Ancient Master so I garner all possible bonuses from that class. Id go itno all the fun on it but Id have to think and Im way to lazy. I do the same on my LM when I make the runs myself for him.
I also tend to have at least 1 to 2 Burgs in my party but mostly at least 1 so they make fine use against him as well atop all other debuffs.
Captain Debuffs fly and the Bear is utilized during the fight as well.
Also I used the Ranged Block Reduction Bow Chant. Most enemies dont evade my shots with 600 Agility so.

Did you use oil? Fire or light?
Fire as I dont think Light Damage was a major benefit.

Did you stance dance, what did you use at roughly what points in the fight?
Endurance up until the 230k mark then Strength Stance.

Did you use Burn Hot (or Cool)?
No unless its the final stretch of the run and I dont need to worry about conserving my power to sustain continual DPS.

Did you have aggro for any significant period?
Typically no but if my Tanks are not up to par as my regs are then sometimes I get it and I just hit Needful Haste and am not cut on DPS for 41 seconds.

NEW: Did you use Press Onward?
No. I do not use Press Onward in combat during the Turtle Fight although I am slotted 3 Bowmaster and 4 Huntsmen for the fight on most occassions. I find the 4/4 Bowmaster Power Cost is just a bit much for me to tolerate and opt for the extra speed on my attacks instead.

Yeah, it's definitely about a heavy tearing it up on the other side of the Turtle. Our Champ was over 750DPS for both of those runs, that's the only way I could have ever touched 500DPS in S:Strength without pulling hate. Even then it takes that short window in S:Precision right at the start for him to get up to speed to hold that hate. If I start in S:S I'm going to have aggro, even with him doing up to 50% more actual damage.

Hence the preference for the Guardian. More actual damage (~40%) and it only takes one Rising Ire about 30sec in to the fight for him to keep it locked until the end. Constant Stagger spam as part of my rotation slows his physical attacks too, so it's a bit easier to reset the bleed.

I have to run endurance until about 250K then switch to strength. If I switch sooner, I get aggro and usually die.

Anywa, I do around 370 DPS with 5/6 Great Bow, a level 59 first-age bow, and pretty good gear.
Yeah, like Kerryak said I wouldn't worry about it. The extra 1-2 Burglars does help inflate everyone's numbers. If we had 1 Burglar instead of 3 for those runs I'd have been down in the low 400s for DPS instead of 500DPS. Well maybe...I'd have had to maintain power reserves a lot longer.

Besides, it's not really about looking at other Hunters to see who does the most damage. My 500 is not stacking up versus your 370, it's stacking up against the other people in my group. It's also stacking up against my previous runs. At the end of the day parsing is first and foremost about improving your own performance.

370DPS in a normal, one Burglar 4:00-4:30 minute run is solid. It's hard to get much higher than that when you've got to stay out of S:Strength for the majority of the fight.

Thanks guys, that was very helpful. I'm gonna get off the sidelines and try my hand at parsing this weekend. It probably won't have any inspiring DPS figures to post, my main goal is just to improve myself.. but it's always interesting to see how you stack against your peers.

It was next on my list of necromancy.

I am debating whether or not to bump Hakon's DPS comparison threads.

The FoS Pulpum one and the other one? I wouldn't bother. So much has changed since they were done I can't imagine they'd be even remotely relevant anymore.

I'm a big fan of displaying trends and how things lead to how they are currently... but you are right, those threads are not even close to relevant with the combat changes.
