Re: All our threads sailed into the West.

We're really sorry about this. I think this is the forum we're feeling the worst about.

P.S. I should add, we asked if there was a way to restore individual forums piecemeal from a backup, but there is not.

Well, this stuff happens. Life goes on. Still kinda sad though; but its nice to know that Turbine investigated every possibility to fix the problem.

There is a backup, but we would have to overwrite the entire forum database. There's no way to restore only these forums. So it was a really tough call to leave them as is, but after looking at the impact it would have had on every other forum and thread, we had to leave it as-is.

Was it an "accident"? And how much of an accident was it? Like, "Oops, we added the Rune-Keeper" "accident"?

Heehee, well, I'm just saying how much of an "accident" it was to delete a board that they might have not liked so much.

Farewell threads, you shall be missed. This is probably one of the forum sections I most enjoyed reading, and occasionally chiming in on, though I am sure we will soon have many more posts added into this section before too long.

Unhappy Re: All our threads sailed into the West.

To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling?
The voices of my people gone before me?

    Farewell, dear threads.

So who's going to start the obligatory "Do Balrogs have wings?" thread up again?

Sad. Some of the most intelligent discussions I've seen on a gaming forum were here.

Ah well. Here's to old threads that are gone. Here's to new threads that will come along.

I have to agree. I noticed earlier today that this part of the forums was empty and I was really hoping it wasn't the case that there was a "pruning mishap", but it appears my fears have been confirmed.

Oh well, I'll look forward to all the new threads and discussions that are sure to follow.

This forum is actually on of the things that convinced me to stick with LOTRO and not go back to WoW. *sigh* I guess I'll just have to help you guys rebuild it.

Of course this would happen right after I posted a definitive and uncontrovertible proof that Balrogs did not have wings.

And I didn't keep a backup of my post. Oh, well.

Joking aside, I actually did have a thorough post linking details in the Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth (The Debate of Finrod and Andreth) to theories about the nature of Tom Bombadil. I spent several hours putting it together the night before the purging. Unfortunately, no backup on that either. That was probably my biggest disappointment in the wake of "The Scouring of the Forums".

I didn't post a whole lot in here but I have this forum bookmarked and check it constantly to read all of the discussions and occasionally chime in

Reddhawk, I read that post you made, and yes, it was beautiful.

I always appreciate your well-thought out and courteous posts, as I have appreciated all of this forum. Perhaps I shall look on the scourging as an opportunity to be more involved in the rebuilding.
