    Re: Girl Gamers

Real female here! I've been playing since the early EQ days, when my husband showed me how to make a half elf paladin. I then outlevelled him, and we had to buy a new computer so both of us could play at the same time!

Since then, we've played a lot of different games, most notably DAoC, WoW, Lineage2, Vanguard. We weren't really gaming when we stumbled upon LOTRO - my brother plays, and he gave me the idea to try it out. I got hooked, so did the husband.

    Level 40 and counting!

    Re: Girl Gamers

I've always played a girl in Lotro (I am one IRL) but I rolled a dwarf minstrel recently and have had a blast. Well guys sure tell a lot of dirty jokes when they don't think any girls are in the group.

I'd love to say it's refeshing to not be hit on so often but honestly, the number of female avatars who bat their eyes at my dwarf (probably because he's a minstrel) has grown from amusing to alarming!

Also people are sometimes generally ruder I've noticed, and because he has a funny name (Teapot) he gets picked on a lot. Often it's girls who do the mocking.

Anyways I've never played from the other side before and it's been interesting and for the most part quite fun. I definitely think of him as male rather than as beared female and I'm quite affectionate towards him compared to my other toons who I don't feel that much for outside of my original 50.

    Re: Girl Gamers

And yet another female here! This is my first MMORPG, though I have played online multi-player games before. Just nothing on this scale. My older brothers both play EQ2, and had been trying forever to get me to try it... it just never happened. Some friends of mine from another game (and I will not mention it's name) talked me into giving this a shot. I love it! I've met a few immature players, but for the most part, everyone's been really cool and helpful. I'm 31 and the mother of 2 children, one girl (10) and one boy (3). I play quite a bit because I'm a stay at home mom, and there are a few names in this thread that I recognize.
My main is a 50 Guardian named Aryllia, who is also a GM Explorer. My main alt is Lialla, a lvl 49 (almost 50) Minstrel, who is not quite a GM scholar. I have a lvl 26 captain, Deeliah, who is a GM Jeweler, and I will be working on getting her to 50 next. I also have a lvl 9 lore master, Arylith, and I have no idea what her craft will be yet. I've never played a creep, though I've given it some thought, and I've not really spent any time in the 'Moors, since a guardian is practically useless there. Really enjoy the game, and I'm totally hooked. I'll post a picture later, maybe, but trust me, you're not missing out on much.
Thanks for starting the thread Talya!

Yeah, I'm a country girl accent and all. Born and raised in the south It seems the population of girl gamers are growing too and that is SO awesome. I want to hear others stories of how they came to play lotro, what class you are and how you are enjoying it or not. I enjoy meeting new peeps and hearing their stories Well that's it for now. CHEERS!! ~Talya
I was born and raised in Kentucky, and now live in Oklahoma.... talk about accents! And... I'm a female player and have gamed since 1999. I have often felt like the only female when I've played but am finding there are more and more of us. It's a nice thing, and I think we add a certain perspective to gaming.

... and yes, I've been known to RP male and female characters! I find often that people have no idea what gender I am in RL and frankly that's okay... we're playing a game after all!

I started LOTRO because I like Tolkein's writings and was accepted into the closed beta! My main character is a male hobbit burglar, and he's a real hoot to play... a litle clumsy and often a little down on his luck, but so much fun... I'm also enjoying a female Champion of Rohan as well.

Glad to be here and glad to see all these posts.

    Re: Girl Gamers

Another girl, 36. This is my first MMORPG. Played a lot of D&D in the 80s/90s and a lot of things like Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Arcanum, etc. It's hard to adjust to not being able to pause after each attack!

A friend who has been on here since the beta wanted to start playing with other people but not with strangers, so he bribed me and my boyfriend (major Tolkien fan, also no MMORPG exp) by buying us the software.

My brother has been in WOW since it started (Crazy Crew, I think) and he agreed that LOTRO would be an easier place for me to start. Not necessarily a maturity thing but at least a higher level of new people and thus more tolerance for not having a clue what you're doing. And just fewer people, so less overwhelming.

We haven't tried joining up with other people yet, so I have no idea about gender-related treatment. I've been on a comicbook message board for years, however, so I know how things can go.

Is vegas_librarian really a librarian? If so, me too!

    Cool Re: Girl Gamers

    A Girl Game Thread!
I had wondered if such a thing existed here.

I am brand new to LOTRO and OL gaming generally. I have been a gamer since about 2000 or thereabouts when I ended up playing through the Baldur's Gate series, Planescape Torment, and a number of other single player RPGs.
I still play those old games too, they were wonderful.

Because I'm a Tolkien fan, and I also moderate the Gaming News section an RPG site (Game Banshee), I became aware of Turbine's plans for LOTRO not long after they were announced, and since then I followed any news very closely. Once the game went live, I began to hope and wish that I'd finally be able to replace my old P3.. that happened just a couple of weeks ago, so I rushed out to buy both "LOTRO" and "The Witcher."
I've spent much more time playing the former, simply because of the novelty of being able to play with friends across the continent, and it has been a lot of fun so far, I'm very pleased I decided to overcome my hesitation toward online games!

I currently have a level 13 elven Loremaster, great fun!

Where gender is concerned, I have to say I have encountered quite a lot of women who game, particularly at Game Banshee, which, traditionally, also has a somewhat more mature member base. I've been there since 2001, and I've never experienced any kind of gender bias, or anything like that. Of course, I would imagine that actually playing online games is a different matter entirely.
Thus far, though, I've found the players I've met in LOTRO to be very nice and helpful.

    So, *waves hello*

    Re: Girl Gamers

I am a mother of 2, both daughters.

    A systems consultant for a Microsoft/Citrix/Cisco/etc. partner.

A long-time gamer (started with AD&D back in high school) who arrived late to MMORPG's (although I did know people who played MUDs and suppose I could have, I was rather too heavily involved in pen & pencil and the occasional bouts of Wizardry type things to get into playing with *gasp* strangers!) -- a bit after EQ came out. I met my husband on the Xegony server. We've played a variety of games, some far more than others, since then.

I applied for LotRO beta because I am a *huge* fan of the lore. It's probably the biggest lore-based series to me, being the first one to really make a huge impression (first loves, you know!). I was so psyched to get in, I practically dragged my poor non-LotR-reading hubby (although he did enjoy the movies!) into the game. We've been enjoying ourselves ever since, though!

My sister (and her husband) now also play LotRO (their first MMORPG), and I have also since talked my best friend (also a huge LotR fan) into playing (again, her first MMORPG).

I'll have to come back to this thread and read more after I've finished doing what I'm *supposed* to be doing (work-stuff!) right now! lol
