Got a harp, now what?
So I'm an Elf Hunter, and I got a harp from a character as a reward in the Epic book quest line. Which is nice and all...but it says I don't have a certain skill that I'd need to play it. I think it would be fun to play it sometime, but I'm unsure of how to go about doing that. What do you guys know about that?
Find a Minstrel with at least Ally standing with the Rangers of Esteldin. They can, and should, have the ability to Mentor you in the playing of a harp.
If you are on Landroval, the Eriador Music Society does a concert every Thursday evening in front of the Bounder's Statue in Michel Delving, starting at 10:30. After the concert and before open mic, they always offer mentoring and they've got folks who can mentor just about anything. Only takes a moment.
Ok so now I've been mentored and can play, but how do I play specific songs? I hear people playing real songs on their instruments, and I don't have the ability to do that. Does it require more learning?
Right click on the instrument to equip it. Right click the equipped instrument to enter playmode.

Or, you can play a song that you have saved as a *.abc file.
You can find *.abc versions of songs on sites like The Fat Lute. Once you find a song you'd like to play, there's a simple process to be able to play it in game.
Step #1: Open Notepad.
Step #2: Copy/Paste song.
Step #3: Go to Save as. Select the save location as Documents -> The Lord of the Rings Online -> music
Step #4: Change the Save as Type drop down from [Text Documents (*.txt)] to [All Types]
Step #5: Name the file "*.abc"
For example; This is the MLP: FIM intro.

Once you've saved the song as a *.abc file in your LotRO music folder, all you have to do is type "/play *".
Basically, you have a Music folder in your Lord of the Rings folder under Documents (you may need to create the Music folder), copy text files of songs to there, and play them in game. I find I prefer the lute for general music playing, but feel free to experiment.
