Greetings all. While I love the music system (and have recently joined a band), I wanted to find some MIDI files from the lord of the rings soundtracks. However, the only pieces I could find online were few, and none were the pieces I was specifically looking for.

Now I have no musical talent in making my own, so I was wondering if anyone already has a MIDI library of the lord of the rings music from the movies, or would be willing to make it for the music community to share.

Any and all all help will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I'm posting this to be shared and tested. If you do try it out, perhaps post a video on youtube, so I can hear it.

Hello everyone :)

I recently came back to the game after around 7 years and found myself on Landroval surrounded by some very friendly, sociable and creative folk making some great music, and I knew I wanted to be a part of that. I have been playing around Bree with my little 3 player band, 'Down n Ditty'. Unfortunately, my PC seems unable to handle more than 3 so I am looking for a minimum of 2 other band members to join :)

I'm not currently planning a set regular concert time, just as and when the mood takes us!

Requirements;

* Able to play all instruments

* UK time zone friendly

* Willing and able to use discord or team speak during practice and gig times

* Familiar with songbook

* Easy going about it all and up for having a laugh with it :)

Beginners to the LOTRO music thing are most welcome, as are seasoned bards. Joining the band 'kinship' is entirely optional. If you are interested please message me here or in game.

Keep on rocking!

Hi all,

first of all here is the new Version for BruTE (25) with support of all the fiddles:

BruTE alpha25: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1La...5Ao5NEQKi9SGAD

Although due to the game not having the travellers trusty fiddle yet we do not know if the volume is correct, but at least you can get an idea.

There is also an option now to separate fast from slow tones in a track to map the fast ones to the sprightly and the slow ones to the lonely mountain fiddle without going crazy in a midi editor.

The lonely mountain fiddle is just not fast enough for fast sequences and the sprightly doesn't hold a tone, but together they make a quite flexible instrument actually ...

@zed: durationsplit <duration> [0/1] - i think i forgot to write that into my howto .)

For those of you who are still stuck with Maestro ... well ... tough luck!

But here is also a link for you (basic Maestro 2.3.1 with all the 4 fiddles):

https://drive.google.com/open?id=12W...woJ_oAdAOSqw9q

@Splik:

Would you please take the samples from the sf2 file and put them in to your Maestro Fork?

The preset channels are:

Lonely Mountain Fiddle - 41

Sprightly Fiddle - 49

Travellers Trusty - 45 (the pizzicato strings were already taken by the harp, so I had to take something else to not break backwards compatibility - also it would be nice if you stick with those preset numbers, then BruTE and Maestro can use the same Instruments file)

Good luck keeping the lotro musicians happy, I prefer to stick with my own converter. I may update the 1.4 old timings branch to have all the instruments at some point as that is the last correctly working ABC player, which would work correctly for those old Fireferns/Eddenwulf/BruTE ABC files... sadly all the 2.x versions of Maestro/ABCplayer have some timing issues. Maybe you can fix those, you'd do a great service to the music community and also my rythmic empathy :)

I don't really know anything about abc files or music in general, but I'm just looking for fiddle-compatible versions of the following three songs. Thanks :)

Hi ho, good news everyone!

I generated an updated version of the soundfontfile that is used by Maestro and BruTE and includes the new student fiddle sounds - there maybe still some tweaking required to get the fiddle volume correct with respect to the relative volume ingame, but roughly speaking it's there and can be used.

So for the BruTE users this means you can start making ABC files featuring the new fiddle right away and actually have an audio preview if you download the BruTE alpha 24 version ( under https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Qb...p64XOdVXLJeBCN ). Of course you will only hear the fiddle if you use the internal wav rendering preview, otherwise it'll shove the abc to the abcplayer who can't play the fiddle yet ...

Which brings me to the bad news:

To use this in Maestro and the ABCplayer there needs to be a new release of Maestro.

I put the new fiddle to midi instrument number 60 - there was space to add the other 3 fiddles that were already put in the game as samples. So the plan is to have the real fiddle on 61, the staccato one at 62 and the pizzicato one at 63.

The good news is that all we need to do - as we all have access to the Maestro source code on github - is extend one enumerator in one java file that defines the instruments ( with 60 for the midi number) and then use the sf2 file included in the current BruTE version ( rename from sfnew.sf2 to lotroinstruments.sf2 of course ).

As for naming I guess the instrument line should look like: student fiddle, or just student

The other option is to change the midi instrument number in the sf2 file to one of the other instruments, effectively rerouting Maestro to play the student fiddle instead of the other instrument, that can be done using a sf2 editor like viena - i think i posted a link to that program in the fiddle-bullroarer thread.

Happy fiddling for now,

Bruzo

When I use the fiddle on a minstrel, there is no playing animation, he just have the fiddle in his hand.

Is this a known bug?

]]>Is this a known bug?

Well, I have had a chance to try out the fiddle live and here is my conclusion.

We need three octaves. There is simply not enough range on it yet. My thought is they have the lowest note set, so add the notes going up until we get three octaves. As is right now, it will not even cover the fiddle part on my midi for concerning hobbits. I have added two screenshots below to explain what I mean.

The first screenshot shows the fiddle part in the lowest octave on Maestro using bagpipe as my selection since it really doesn't matter which we chose at this point. Using the lowest possible octave setting without putting notes in the red (out of range) area, we lose a large portion of the notes due to the lack of them existing on the in game fiddle. The second screenshot shows the same part moved up an octave and we lose the last note going out of range.

Lowest setting:

High setting:

My thought would be keep the lowest note you have for the fiddle and add the missing notes going up in range until we have three octaves or, replace the low end missing notes with synthetic notes. This will allow us a greater diversity of use for it since as it, it is going to be terribly lacking usefulness. We will move it around as needed to make it fit our songs when possible but as it sits now, its limited and very disappointing.

The only workable solution to this problem right now would be move the entire song up or down half an octave and hope the other parts still fit and do not sound too bad, or perhaps a quarter octave, but more often than not, that just makes the entire song sound odd.
