Imladris ideas for the Taking The Hobbits To Isengard event

Imladris ideas for the Taking The Hobbits To Isengard event:

This is in regard to Sapience's forum post https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...ts-to-Isengard! which is scheduled for Wed April 23 at 5 PM ET. How will we Imladrissians be participating in this event?

I'd like to contribute the following questions to the discussion (my own thoughts follow later):

    (1) What is our Objective: To win, to just Have fun, or both?

    (2) Route: What route will we take from the Pony to Isengard?

    (3) Participation: Who all can and will be doing what? e.g., who will be directly escorting Sapience? Will other jobs be joining him? Who will heal, who will dps, who will tank? Will there be scouts, flankers, and other groups clearing the path? Who WANTS to do what?

    (4) Organization: How do we coordinate things such as practice runs, keeping the actual run organized, handling troublemakers, etc?

    (5) Communication: How do we keep everyone interested on Imladris informed of the plans and decisions?

I'm not trying to take charge (I'd just get lost, anyway!), just trying to throw some questions out there so we can all participate in the event! Any thoughts?

    Some thoughts on above

Hey, thanks Ning! Here are my thoughts on the above:

    (1) Objective: While we clearly want to both win AND have fun, there are things to think about to balance both, for example, do we just form a huge mob around Sapience, or do we organize into smaller groups and spread out to minimize lag? I'd like to see Imladris have a chance at winning, so I'd favour key individuals in designated groups with lag-minimizing plans to help our chances. Everyone can still participate and have fun, without it being complete chaos.

    (2) Route: Suggest finding the quickest route through practice runs. It'd be nice to announce the start of a practice run in this forum post, regional and glff as early as possible so everyone gets a chance to try it. Someone could post a map with the route line drawn, and milestones and times marked.

    (3) Participation: Who will do what, and how will we decide that? Sapience will /follow 1 person: who? Who will be flankers, killing the mobs to protect Sap? Who will be in the vanguard? Who will be dedicated to healing Sap? Who will keep Shield Wall on Sap? Who will deal with troublemakers (like by warning them GM's are watching and could ban for messing things up)?

    (4) Organization: Who all is doing what? Would be nice to have some names and things for key activites. Will we have hunters for speed boost? Who will be in what groups? Will we designate groups for (a) vanguard, (b) left flank, (c) right flank, (d) Trala healing, etc? Could we organize other people to be at checkpoints (maybe shoot off a few fireworks if lag is ok) who can't come along the whole run? Some fun stuff maybe?

    (5) Communication: Keep everyone in the loop as much as possible. Announce things in glff, regional, ooc as often as possible, including links to relevant sites with information. Announce practice runs. Should someone be appointed to announce progress during the run, i.e. where we are and times? Should we have a special /hobbit (e.g.) channel for important communications during the run? will we be posting information to specific websites and/or youtube channels?

Some quick thoughts from today's Practice run:
    * Great job everyone that participated! Was lots of fun!
    * Having symbols over the heads of the "hobbit" and leader was very helpful
    * Main group at least should use RaidCall/TeamSpeak or something to avoid having to type
    * Lots of hunters is group for ranged attacking ahead of main party and for speed boosts
    * Leader (one who Sap will /follow) shouldn't need to do anything other than lead (e.g. have someone else be casting ShieldWall on hobbit, etc)
    * Perhaps have following roles: Leader (who Sap /follows), Sap-healer, vanguard group goes 2 minutes ahead of main party to clear mobs, "Intel" person to announce things within the core group(s), "Reporter" to announce things to the server via glff and regional (progress), Navigator (to check map and say which way if peeps get confused (shouldn't happen)), Timekeeper to keep track of and announce time past waypoints
    * Announce waypoints where people can gather to cheer the main group on, play music, shoot fireworks, etc

Ooh how exciting. If I can help in any way, please let me know. I'll be happy to help plan if you need more people, and also can volunteer a hunter for the vanguard or an additional healer.

I'd like to see a practice run after 8:30PM servertime at some point; I know I'm not the only one who can only play when the kiddos are in bed and the dishes are done. I'd offer to help coordinate it (though I am not exactly the most experienced group leader around...)

A lot of fun tonight on those runs. Although we didn't quite make it to Isengard, it was good to get our feet wet and practice a bit. The second run, the route looked good, just have to clean up the landscape a bit more and we're good.

Looking forward to Tuesday and having some more fun. Practice makes perfect. Let's have some fun and get that record time!

    /Cheers Imladris

I think there should be two blue line hunters with the Hobbit. One ahead and one behind. Also if one hunter lags or runs too far/behind the other's Find the Path should still be buffing and no time will be lost. Speaking of which, both hunter's FtPs should be maxed.

If anything kills it it will be ranged, like today where it went smoothly up till the path between Enedwaith and Dunland. We should identify those areas with a lot of ranged mobs and be sure to have guardians SW Hobbit just in case any are missed. Seeing as any mob can pretty much one shot the package though, it's really all about killing them before they even detect our little halfling friend.

Since my chicken army idea would take a long time to organize, unfortunately, I think that one is out. :/ However, having a few lower level characters surrounding the Hobbit to be picked off first would really be the best kind of defense, IMO. If everything is done right, even they should survive.

I posted a crude diagram with some ideas for the raid organization at https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater

The main raid would consist of 4 groups, all groups having 2+ hunters (for blueline runspeed and ranged dps)

    [] The Main Group has:
    * Hadacar (Sapience)
    * Guide (who Hadacar follows) (hunter would be good)
    * Hunter (blue-line for runspeed)
    * Guardian (for shieldwall on Hadacar)
    * Minstrel (dedicated to Hadacar heals only)
    * Rune Keeper (dedicated to Hadacar heals only)

[] Vanguard group goes ahead of Main Group clearing the way
[] Left Flank group clears left flank
[] Right Flank group clears right flank
[] Rearguard group follows, ensuring all mobs are dead and would contain replacement classes if any of the Main Group should go linkdead or anything

    Also critical:
[] Scout Group/Raid - goes ahead of the Vanguard by 1 or 2 minutes clearing mobs
[] Lowbie shield - bunch of lowbies (around level 10) surrounding Hadacar to soak up any agro that might get through the defenses

    Suggestions:
    * Raid Leader should not be in Main Group, so if Raid Leader needs to do anything like move people around, they won't hold up the party
    * The Lowbie shield surrounding Hadacar is very important, can we get enough people to do it?

    Thoughts?

That seems like a good layout, the only change I would make is to move lvl10 players behind the scouts. I've done this on several servers, I'm sure there are plenty more who'd be glad to be bait. They will act like aggro magnets and will help to draw out those pesky ranged wrights and the sort. It just takes 2, as they die (they will--with glory), have fresh bait move up in the formation. The scouts just need to tap the mobs, the vanguard should finish them up so that chasing mobs don't reset back to where hadacar is. Lvl95 hunters should be able to one shot all the way to Dunland, drawing out the targets is really the part that cannot fail.

Aye, though he aint going to die. Took the obvious route yesterday as we know it works, a few minor tweeks to route to be done, other than that is was fine and dandy.

As we know a good vanguard limits the need for to many toons around the mark, but next few weeks is all about route.

As for leadership the overall person who heads it up, prolly needs a 360 view of it, so can not actually do much other than relay to sub leaders

Hey, i didn't have internet yesterday...
Seneru/Tralalin here, Odhrowe is my 61 blue line hunter.

All looks great, just few things i wanna add:
---> the main group should remain out of combat, preferably all the way to isen. That way hunter's FP will be on all the time, and yeah, FP should be maxed trait and LI -wise
----> blue line hunters everywhere the most PVE efficient line(my opinion, i cant say a thing about PvMP), running while shooting is great thing. Those work by traiting so you get the most focus build up possible out of the trait line. Volley to squeeze in HS or SB from time to time. All other shots are barrage, unless you wanna CC something, and if you combine that with Rapid Fire, you will have a smile on your face while playing your hunter. The tricky part with this line is to never run out of focus and power, that takes some time to get used to. If you have your power above the 50%, after say 40-60 sec fighting, then you are doing something wrong - lol - kidding, though keep in mind that this is a very power hungry setup. IMs me i can show you how that works, near Galtrev for example

Can't wait to try that thing again with the new setup. More ppl should come though. Please, come at the Prancing Pony to take part in the test runs!

A suggestion... (I've been on a few of these)

If you want to have groups like that. You will need a way to coordinate them. I would suggest forming a raid and spreading the members out among the various groups. Put target marks over their heads and try to communicate that people should gather around those people.

That way, when anyone in the raid opens the map, they can get an idea of where Hadagar is, where the other groups are and where they are relative to all.

Your vanguard should not go so far forward that mobs respawn between them and Hadagar's group. Likewise for flanks. They can't allow a mob to slip between the vaguard and their path allowing it to get to Hadagar.

Mobs are not your major worry though. LAG IS. Definitely get people to get off mounts and take off capes. The biggest time losses I have seen come from Hadagar's keeper letting him get caught behind something and then running off. I have to think that is due to lag. Possibly inattention. So maybe watch for that too!

Some notes from today's Practice Run:
    * It was a great run, thanks to everyone who participated!
    * We chat in Custom Channel: Hobbit
    * Bag overflows create lag. Come with empty bags, delete as needed.
    * Everyone must have voicechat
    * On day of actual run we need to get organized hours in advance, planning in accordance with the decisions on this forum post

    Couple of additional notes:
    * Although we're mostly running along, sometimes you need to ride your mount just to catch up to your group.
    * It'd be good to have some peeps stationed at key route points to make sure we're going the right way (and they can keep areas clear while waiting)
    * Looks like the next run will be Thursday March 13th @ 7PM EST, I think Bronwen will announce it
    * We can start putting people that will definitely be there for the real event into their key roles so we don't have to worry about those, if so, how to choose? Peep volunteer for roles? e.g. Vanguard Leader (was Zip this run), Raid Leader (was HopeSong this run), Main Hadacar Healer (was none this run), Guide (was Gilgariel this run), Guardian for Hadacar Shieldwall (was HardHide this run)?
    * Is there someplace we can post pictures? I took several during the practice run, and it'd be nice to post the route

What a great run yesterday. I appreciate all who took part in the practice run. We made it all the way with no deaths and a great time as well!

    Keep it secret...keep it safe.

Next run will be this Thursday {Tomorrow} at 7:00 PM EST if I am not mistaken.

Definitely looking forward to this yet again.

See you at the Prancing Pony! Pints of Ale are on me.

It seems as if I have caught a rather nasty little cold after our practice run yesterday. Unless I can get a hold of some kick ### cold medicine to keep me from sneezing my brains out long enough for the practice tomorrow we might need a backup level 10 hobbit.

I do hope you feel better, Bronwen.

If need be, I have a level 11 Hobbit Burg ready for an adventure so it's all good.

Still though, definitely hope you can make it tomorrow.

Next run will be Tuesday 3/18 at 3pm ET

Thanks to everyone who participated in today's run! Good practice! A few notes (I'll be general on this forum, join the practice runs for the details):

    * The next serverwide practice run with hobbit will be Tuesday March 18 at 3:00 PM Eastern Time.
    * Zip will be taking people on a horseride just to learn the route Saturday, IM Zipsarchie for info
    * We can always use more people of all levels! Especially hunters. If any want to come early for recon duty, we need you!
    * Try to get to the Prancing Pony around 1/2 hour or at least 15m before the run so we can get the raid sorted and try to leave on time.
    * Protect the hobbit! \o/
    * Please note: I'm just posting notes, I'm not in charge or anything (I get lost, don't follow me!). This is equally for everyone on our server. Just join in the discussion and runs, help bring fame to Imladris!

Almost forgot, Linathrial do you think you can be the practice hobbit on March 18th so I can participate in the run as a bodyguard or something else? Thanks!
Yes, I can be there with my Hobbit Burg lvl 11 if you'd like to take a break from the package. No problem.

    BTW, concerning last night's run....

We were spread out WAY too much....especially in the higher level areas. We need to clean that up. Stay close to the package. Yes, some must advance ahead a little but they don't have to be a mile ahead either. I noticed that I was way past the vanguard at times only because I was trying to keep up with Zip and his speed buff. Sometimes I would lagged behind and noticed that when I was next to the package, she was practically by herself. This cannot happen as we get to the higher levels.

From Trollshaws on, it must be a tight, close formation with the Vanguard and lead group only a little ways up clearing in front. It was still fun last night though. See you guys on Tuesday at 3:00.

    /Cheers Imladris

I will see you guys at around 2:30PM EST at the Prancing Pony...barring some real life emergency.

The name is Naphtak....level 11 Hobbit Burg.

Hopefully, we have enough people to do a run....should be fun.

PS. ~ A lot of people look at the forums but don't post....they are shy....I'm not....go figure.
