The Lord of the Rings Online is set in the Third Age, during the War of the Ring. The game begins approximately after Frodo leaves the Shire with the One Ring and has progressed to the point where the Fellowship depart Rivendell.
Second Age
3441 Defeat of Sauron by the Last Alliance. Isildur, Aragorn’s ancestor, claims the One Ring.
Third Age
2 Isildur returns northward with the One Ring. He is waylaid by Orcs and slain. The One Ring is lost.
c. 2400 Fall of Edhelion
3001 Bilbo, under pressure from Gandalf, gives the One Ring to Frodo and departs for Rivendell
c.3015 Gollum is captured in Mordor, and under torture reveals that a Hobbit named “Baggins” has the ring.

Sept 29th – Gandalf arrives in the Shire, learns Frodo has left, and departs. Frodo and company arrive in Bree and meet Aragorn, who informs them that Gandalf is on his way.
Sept 30th – Bree raided by Riders in the morning. Frodo and company depart. Gandalf arrives later that night, and departs soon after.
Oct 18th – Gandalf arrives in Rivendell.
Oct 20th – Frodo and company arrive in Rivendell.
Oct 25th - Council of Elrond meets.
Dec 25th - Fellowship depart Rivendell.
Jan 13th – Fellowship enters Moria.
