Angmar
Early in the Third Age, the north of Eriador was inhabited by a wicked and superstitious people who were easily deceived by the Enemy. The Black Captain of the Nazgûl was sent by the Dark Lord to subjugate that land, and became known as the Witch-king, lord of the fell realm of Angmar. Upon the slopes of the Mountains of Angmar, he built the great fortress-city of Carn Dûm, from whence he ruled with an iron fist…. and an Iron Crown. Bree-land
Known in the Elvish language as Tyrn Gorthad ("Hills of Tombs"), the Barrow-downs, located east of the Old Forest in the Bree-land region of Eriador, is a place of mystery best avoided by unwary adventurers. By day, the area seems harmless enough - a quiet region of gently rolling plains and grassy mounds topped by ancient standing stones, marking the final resting place of great warriors from ages past. Enedwaith
Once Gondor's northernmost reaches, the hills of Enedwaith have for centuries run wild, a place where few have lived for long. Both hobbits and dwarves tarried among the dells, and of late the men of Dunland have ranged into those lands. Even those savage folk regard Enedwaith with fear, however, and whisper of strange and ancient powers that lurk in its woods and frigid vales - powers as old as the land itself, and which do not take kindly to being disturbed.

Ered Luin
Leading down from the lofty heights of the Blue Mountains, where lies the gate to Thorin’s Hall, is a long and wide valley bounded by forested slopes and ancient ruins: the Vale of Thráin. All manner of wild beasts inhabit the mountains, from elegant lynx to massive bears and filthy hendrevail. Along the road through the Vale are two outposts maintained by the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains: the way-station Nogrod, and Gondamon, the fortress at the foot of the Vale. Eregion
During the Second Age, the Elves founded the kingdom of Eregion at the feet of the Misty Mountains. There they wrought works of great beauty - but Sauron deceived them into forging the Rings of Power, then laid waste to their realm. Now the hills lie desolate, home to wargs, crebain, and worse ... though some say the Ring-forges still stand amid the rubble. Here, too, can be found the West-gate of Khazad-dûm, opened anew after a thousand years, luring the unwary into the darkness.
