Feature Article: Fellowship Quests

Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, and Thorin’s Company; Frodo, Samwise, Merry, Pippin; Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli; the Company of the Ring–the sagas of these heroes are tales of camaraderie, teamwork, and companionship in the face of doom and dread. They concern themselves with achieving things together that cannot be achieved alone.

In The Lord of the Rings Online, some quests provide challenges too dangerous, enemies too numerous, and monsters too fearsome to combat on your own. These are fellowship quests: adventures designed to challenge two to six heroes at once.

Teamwork

Fellowships work best when everyone shares a common goal, whether it’s to find a quest item, reach a forbidding destination, or bring down one poor, outnumbered Orc.

Fellowship quests dramatize Tolkien’s recurring themes of friendship and cooperation, but they also bring a larger scale of action to life in the game. They involve bigger stakes, grander tales, and more perilous destinations in your character’s saga, letting her play a vital role in the battles for Eriador without sacrificing scope. And hopefully, by teaming up with unexpected companions to embark on these quests, you’ll make some friends along the way.
